Staffordshire Lookup Requests / Re: 1871 staffordshire look up please

Hi Fizzybubble,
Just did a search on my mothers maiden name Tolefree (not a very common name it seems). Her family were originally from Wolverhampton and may well have been the proprieters of the Drapers shop...if so, hope they were nice to your young Mary!
Regards, Elaine

Sussex Lookup Requests / Re: 1851 Brighton, SHEPHERD

Thanks Emma,
Yes, it is the only Moses that I could find. It just mystified me that he seems to be with a different woman. He was married to Sarah and they apparently had 8 children born between 1817 - 1833 all in Colchester. I wonder if second marriages or divorces were common in those days? Maybe Sarah died. I'll have to find out.
I was trying Brighton Lookups because there may possibly be some family links there.
Regards, Elaine.

Sussex Lookup Requests / 1851 Brighton, SHEPHERD

Can anyone find Moses Shepherd and wife Sarah in Brighton in 1851?
They would possibly be in their 50's, born Earles Colne/Colchester area.
Thanks, Elaine

Just a shot in the dark really but I wondered if anyone could find a Moses and Sarah Shepherd/or spelling variant, in 1841. They would have had 3 or more children

What a good resource - thanks Nell.
Didn't find anything - they don't seem to have any records listed from Essex yet but will keep looking. Some interesting reading though.
I'm sure the Access to Archives would be useful for other researchers to look at.
Thanks again

Thanks Ken... no nothing there.
Something in me wants to find an interesting story, a dark and mysterious character to be discovered in the lost mists of time...but no, he was probably just your average guy...still I'll keep looking.
I bet there are some interesting stories from other researchers.?

Thanks Suttontrust and jorose,
Whoops on re-checking my census notes I have noticed that the family moved between 1881 and 1891 (not 1891 - 1901) and yes there was a child born in 1887 in Colchester so it narrows down the dates of moving...thanks, don't know why I didn't think of that myself!
The dad in 1881 was a 'confectioner' and strangely doesn't appear with the family in Brighton in 1891, but reappears (with a different first name) in 1901 as a 'baker'. I thought may be that was in prison or something in 1891 but it seems he was on a ship/boat as a 'donkey engine driver'.
I still must try to find out why they moved though - thanks for the tips.

Thanks,
I'd like to be able to narrow down the dates but only have information on where the family is from the 1891 and 1901 census entries.
Well, looks like a long job to go through the papers  but it may be worth it.
Maybe there are police/court records too??
Thanks again.
