The Common Room / Re: Joel Rowsell - have hit a dead end
« on: Tuesday 19 November 19 15:06 GMT (UK)  »
I now believe that my 3xgreat-grandparents were Richard and Sarah (nee Snook) as I have a good DNA match with a descendant of their daughter Sarah (1819-1874) who married John Warbey.

This means that my 2ggf Richard is the youngest brother of Joel, and was slightly older than I had previously thought.

The connection with Switzerland is that Richard's wife, Louisa Mary Veronica Pauly (1817-1890), was the daughter of the Swiss inventor, Samuel Johann Pauli (aka Jean Samuel Pauly - see his entry on Wikipedia which I have augmented greatly). I think this must have caused some confusion when the 1851 census was taken.

I now also have Sarah (nee Snook)'s death certificate - she died on 27 Oct 1840 in Edmonton, and her husband had predeceased her.

Census Lookup and Resource Requests / Re: 1871/61 lookup please for VERT family
« on: Monday 10 December 18 00:05 GMT (UK)  »
I'm first seeing this thread over 12 years after the original post, but came across it yesterday whilst researching this family because I know Deberiot's grandson - he is the 3rd generation (at least) of string players in the Green family!

I have found Deberiot through all the censuses from 1861 to 1911, and then traced him right up to his death in 1935 - he appears in most of the London electoral registers for the 1920s with his wife Annie and son Horace.

Deberiots' parents, Jabez Green and Eliza Vernon, were married on 28 Nov 1836 at St Mary's, Lambeth.

I haven't yet seached through the GRO indexes to find details of births/deaths of any babies who didn't survive to be recorded in a census, but those I have noted to date are:
James Jabez Green 1840–1842
Jabez James Green 1842–
Emma Eliza Green 1845–
Viotti Green 1849–
Eliza (aka Lilly) Green 1853–
Amy Rosina 1854 -1854
Deberiot Spohr Rossini Green (violinist, leader/conductor of London's Gaiety Orchestra) 1858–1935

Coming very late to this discussion, but this article is interesting and explains that the nickname Bunty doesn't refer to any one particular name:

Wiltshire Completed Lookup Requests / Re: Chute Parish Register - PHILLIMORE
« on: Saturday 08 April 17 13:14 BST (UK)  »
I just wish I could get further back on the PHILLIMORE side, - I can't wait for  the BTs for Ludgershall to be published!

Now, thanks to FindMyPast's new Wiltshire collections released yesterday, I have seen transcripts of Ludgershall's baptisms, banns, marriages, burials, and the results are surprising (and not what I suspected at all) - I was right to have niggling doubts about William's parentage.
Although on his marriage certificate his father is named as John, on his baptism record only his mother is listed (Jane Phillimore) and she is described as a 'pauper'.
Incidentally, the person I'd thought was William's brother was actually his cousin, but I now have a completely new Phillimore line to get used to!

Being connected to the Stanhope family myself, I was interested to check his tree, but dissapointed to come across an error. His Mary /Margaret Jerningham who married Thomas Stanhope would appear to be the daughter of John Jermingham and sister of Edward Jermingham who married Mary Scrope. As his tree was supposed to ascend  through Mary Scrope up to William the  Conqueror, if what I found is correct, then he would not be a direct descendant. I would be happy to be proved wrong!
Very belatedly finding this thread, I felt I must reply to say I'm glad that I'm not the only person who noticed the error in that line! (I even wrote to the College of Arms about it but received no reply.)
Fortunately, Frank has many other lines leading to nobility and royalty, and he is my 13th cousin once removed, our mutual ancestors being George Throckmorton and Katherine Vaux (whose 4ggf was Edward III).

Suffolk / Re: Darsham Suffolk
« on: Thursday 22 December 16 17:29 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All.
I am doing some research on Darsham in Suffolk and am struggling to find previous owners/tenants of a property called Darsham House (or may be Hall). It was built in 1679. I have only been able to link the names Parry-Crooke and Purvis to the house :(
If anyone has any information I would be very very grateful x x x

I have been researching the Parry-Crooke family recently (I used to teach the piano to a lovely lady who married into the Parry-Crooke family and discovered, sadly after her death in 2008, that her husband had been a very distant relation of mine via his paternal grandmother, Georgiana Harriet St. Leger, whose pedigree can be seen at http://thepeerage.com/p6286.htm#i62854).

I don't know whether you know that Darsham Hall is now a guest house, doing 'Luxury Bed & Breakfast' - here is their website: http://darshamoldhall.co.uk/

Best wishes,
Janice

One Name Studies: H to M / Re: HEVENINGHAM HENNINGHAM, All
« on: Tuesday 06 December 16 16:26 GMT (UK)  »
I'm descended from Elizabeth Digby, Lady Wake (1575-1631), the daughter of Sir George Digby and Abigail HEVENINGHAM who died in 1602.

I have traced Abigail's line back a few generations (see below), but would love to connect it to the earlier Heveninghams in my tree, e,g,Sir John Heveningham MP (1359 - 1425).

Thomas Heveningham (1460 - 1499)
|
John Heveningham (1475 - 1536)
|
Anthony Heveningham (1507 - 1557)
|
Abigail Heveningham (1550 - 1602)

Best wishes,
Janice
