Lanarkshire / Re: DOUGLAS family, Glasgow area

Hello, thank you for your reply.

I have done some further research and discovered that William's father is also called William - this is on his marriage certificate dated 1841.  William (senior) was also listed as being a mariner.  William (junior) had been married previously so I am also on the hunt for his first marriage!

I thought initially that Peter and Agnes were his parents and started researching them too but it looks like I was climbing the wrong tree unfortunately.   I do still have the downloaded copy of Peter's will (testament dative) and would be happy to send this to you if you dont have it already.

Thank you again for your reply, it is much appreciated.  I have found two Williams both with the father named William and the mother in both cases is called Margaret so I am not sure which one, if any, are the 'right' William and Margaret!  I guess this will be my next thread to unravel!!

Kind regards
Victoria

Lanarkshire / Lookup please, William Douglas b abt 1799 Lanark
« on: Monday 28 June 10 14:32 BST (UK)  »
Hello

I wondered if anyone is able to help me with this look up.  I am having problems locating the right William Douglas!

The information I have is that he was born abt 1799 in Lanark.  He died in London, England in 1861.  According to the England Census returns he was a Stonemason.

His father was also called William Douglas and was recorded as a Mariner on his son's marriage certificate dated 1 March 1841.  William (junior) was married to Susan Gantlett.

Any help would be appreciated.  This is the only surname I have not been able to research as yet, and this is my only Scottish ancestor.

Many thanks

Dear all

Thank you for your replies. Sorry for not posting again since my original post.  I have been busy raising a young child who is now 2 so I dont get to the computer as much as I did before.

I have been helping a friend at work who is a decendent of the Polworth line.  I would be happy to pass on any info on the family if anyone is interested.

Best wishes to all

Hi

I am looking for any info on David Polworth  who was born abt 1828 in Berwickshire, Scotland.  He was married to Jannet (not sure of maiden name) and they had one son born in Scotland in 1856 - James.

I have also found 3 children on the 1881 census who were all born in Woodford, Essex.  The children were Alice b 1856, George b 1865 and James 1867.

Any help would be appreciated please!
Many thanks

Hampshire & IOW Lookup Requests / Re: Sarah Cubbin 1871
« on: Friday 16 September 05 23:11 BST (UK)  »
Hi

Sorry, I can't find her in the 1871 census but have possibly found the family in 1881:

Robert Cubbin  Head age 41 b Devon
Martha Cubbin  Wife age 41 b Portsmouth
Alice Apsey   Step daughter age 13 b Portsmouth

The address is 69 Somers Road Portsea.  The wife's name is not Sarah though so maybe Sarah was a middle name??

You may have this already, sorry if you have and also sorry it is not 1871.

Hope this helps.

Hi Alex

The marriage you are looking for was registered in Winchester in the September quarter of 1908.  To order the certificate you need this ref no:

Winchester Sep 1908 volume 2c page 306.

I hope this helps.
