Staffordshire completed Look up Requests / Re: Staffordshire 1861 - Swarbrook(e)
« on: Wednesday 21 July 04 11:26 BST (UK)  »
Hello

They had several addresses in Staffordshire

The first that I know of was 117 Belle Vue Street, Leek and afterwards in Mill Street, Leek plus 19 Union Street.

They all worked in the Silk Mills, so assume streets were very near to the Mills.

I did check the 1861 for Derby without success (Relatives were in Alkmund Street, Derby)

Thanks

Hi there gwarwick

Thank you for your very kind offer to do a lookup in the 1861 census for Staffordshire.

I have some ancestors who moved around the Silk Mills of Macclesfield, Derby, Nottingham and Paisley in Scotland before finishing up in Leek Staffordshire.

I know they were in Leek on the 1871, 81, 91 and 01 census, but not exactly sure when they moved there or where they were in 1861 or 1851

Any help to locate them would be appreciated

William Swarbrook(e) born Macclesfied 1804
Margaret (nee Whylie) born Paisley Scotland 1827
James born Paisley Scotland 1852
Sarah Jane born Maythorne, Southwell, Notts 1856
George born 1860 in Derby

Thanks

Reggie

You are posting all over the place

The church would no longer hold that record as the baptism books would have long since been closed and deposited in the County Records Office - that is where you should be looking.

You will probably find the 'Friends of the Record Office' have probably already transcribed the register which makes it easier.

Hi Reggie

As Chris says, wherever he was born in 1802, there would not have been any documents to record his birth.

The only possible archive is the place where he was baptized - usually within the first month of life, and perhaps you may get lucky and find the clerk has put his actual birth date in the baptism register.

Completed Census Requests / Re:WW I and WW II Look up please.

Mr B

Thanks loads for that information

John Swarbrook, born 1887, married Nellie O,brien, lived in Orchard Street, Derby
Frederick William Swarbrook, born 1884, married Martha Birks, last known address was Gordon Street, Derby

The holder of the Military Medal was indeed William Swarbrooke, his son Albert Swarbrook, born 1923 in Derby, lived most of his life in Brighton where he was caretaker of Brighton College - a well respected man - married Lilian Clayton.

They were three brothers who had very different mis fortunes / fortunes from WW I - William married Florence Kent in Derby.

May I ask please why you were doing the research, and what was it for

Thanks

Hi there Doug

Just wanted to say thankyou for your quick response - sorry I took so long to reply, its Kids bath night and hair wash.

They are back to school tomorrow.

As yet, the Eastwoods you listed do not figure in my Family Tree, but will keep the info filed away for when they are

Thanks

Hi there Doug Lewis

Can you see if any of the following are on the cd's

World War I
Swarbrooke / Swarbrook - I know of two brotheres with the Leicestershire Regiment who both died in WWI - are their any more entries please.

Eastwood, Charles Edmund - Lieut, T.F.R; R.A.F.

World War II
Any person with the Surname Swarbrooke / Swarbrook, but I am not aware of any.

Eastwood as above - not sure if he was still alive.

I expect there are to many 'Eastwoods' to list, but am looking for Eastwoods from West Riding of Yorkshire.

Thanks Doug

Radnorshire / 'Bowen' in Wales
« on: Thursday 04 March 04 18:38 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Welsh Researchers

I would appreciate some help in furthering my information on Winifred Bowen of Presteigne (born 1884) and who married a Henry Lister of Presteigne (born 1881) at Presteigne in June 1904.
According to their marraige certificate her father is listed as Thomas Bowen, Farm Labourer.
I can not find either Winifred or her father Thomas on the 1891 census for England or Wales when she would have been about 6 years old - but I have got her on the 1901 aged 16, and a domestic servant - but no sign of Thomas.
Can anyone help me put this family together properly please

Thankyou

Listermint
