Sussex / Re: Thomas Maple burial location

Thank you both, I have this record but I did not understand that the parish church was St Mary in Broadwater. If that is the case that is really helpful, thank you. A local historian from there checked the records and found nothing. Perhaps he was looking at headstone records and I doubt my relative would have had one. Pleased to have narrowed down the location anyway. Thank you.

Sussex / Thomas Maple burial location
« on: Monday 27 November 23 19:37 GMT (UK)  »
I am struggling to find the final resting place of Thomas Maple who died on the 19th June 1855 in Worthing. He either lived at Anchor Inn, High Street, Worthing or maybe just died there? I have the burial record which shows he was buried in the parish of Broadwater on the 20th June 1855. He is not in Broadwater cemetery as they did not have burials until 1863. The church historian for St Mary's Broadwater has looked into it for me and says that there are no records at the three churchyards for him. He must be in one of them, although I am aware that the records were only as good as the resident vicar and how good he was at recording things. Find a grave does not seem to ever come up with anything for me, tried them too.  Any assistance would be appreciated.

The Common Room / Re: FVT2 on a workhouse record - what does it mean?

Thank you for trying to help. I did enquire at the Keep with two volunteers, we also tried looking on line to no avail. I will keep a note of it and investigate further when I can.

I viewed the actual record and do not have a picture or copy of it. The record was from the Steyning Union Workhouse. The record went across two pages and was as follows:
Year of birth 1841
Name: William Maple.
Nearest relative: A. E Maple, brother, Round Robin, near Steyning, FVT2. This looked like it had been written in at a later date other than admission, it was slightly raised up.
Date of discharge: 8 Nov 1891 DEAD.
Other spaces on the page were for dates where person had been re-admitted or discharged.

The Common Room / FVT2 on a workhouse record - what does it mean?

Today I viewed the Workhouse Records from 1899, my ancestor had FVT2 at the end of the column where the next of kin is noted. I wondered what does it mean. Other records had just FVT by theirs.
Thank you

Flintshire / Re: Grave location of John Griffiths - Greenfield.

Thank you so much for the information, so I guess this is Bagilt cemetery then is it do you think? (sorry to sound simple!) You wrote: this is in down on a sheet for burial. The record I have just shows Holywell, if the record you saw shows Bagilt cemetery could you please just confirm that for me. Thank you so much

Thank you also, I do have the details of the accident, I have an inquest report from the Miners newspaper. If you have anything other than that, then yes I would love to see it.

Flintshire / Grave location of John Griffiths - Greenfield.
« on: Tuesday 21 February 23 19:13 GMT (UK)  »
Following on from the findings of the death of my gt gt grandfather, (Thank you Rootschat  :)) ) I am now trying to locate his final resting place.

His name was John Griffiths, married to Elizabeth nee Roberts
He lived in Victoria Cottages (newspaper reporting on death)/ 3 Victoria Place (1891 census) Greenfield, Hoywell.
He died on 1st July 1895 at the Bettisfield Colliery and was buried on the 4th July.
The burial record just shows Holywell in the county of Flint and the vicar was A Williams.

I have tried Find a Grave in the three cemeteries in that local area where I can only guess he would have been buried, but with no luck. I am feeling, as he died at 45 (burial record says age 47, this is incorrect) and had 9 children that there will be no headstone.

Any help would be much appreciated as I am visiting in July and would dearly like to visit his resting place.

Thank you
