;D Welcome to the family.  As you will have noted from an earlier post, there are 3 of us searching and we each connect through separate children of Henry and Adelia.  I have much that I am happy to share with you.  We have concluded for instance that your Eleanor Hindle Donkin and my great grandfather Thomas Cole Donkin were twins.  I am currently waiting for a certificate that should back up this theory.  I am happy to continue but emailing may be a better form of communication so I will PM you my email address.
Regards

garstonite & aghadowney, your are truly wonderful.  :) I thank you very much for your efforts.
I need to take some time to take this all in, but am in need of sleep. It's time for bed on this side of the world. I am visiting family this weekend so I will chat with them and hopefully they can also fill some of my gaps.
Once again thank you

Thank you so much for the information.  I have names but no dates or places for the following:
Children of Robert URE & Elisabeth, nee SHAW are Robert and Elisabeth. Naming pattern is quite frustrating.
Children of John GRAY & Elisabeth, formerly URE, nee SHAW are possibly William, James, Annabella, & Thomas.  Apparently John brought his son John (Older than Robert URE's children) to the marriage.
Elisabeth and John GRAY stayed in the Shotts area.  The only family member who came down under was Elisabeth's Grandson John Ure GRAY (Jock - my Grandfather).  I believe he originally went to Australia in 1925 and stopped off in New Zealand on his way home to visit with his Uncles, Michael & Steve HUGHES.  He married and lived out his life here in NZ.
I appreciate the time you all take to find out things that are very difficult to discover or confirm from the other side of the world. Thank you again for your kindness.

Yes sorry for that.  :-\I am fairly new to this site.  I spotted the member's surname interest SHAW - Muirkirk and wanted to contact her but couldn't find any posts with Shaw as her subject.  I tried a PM but either myself or the recipient didn't have the max.PM to allow that.  I was hoping that she might connect to my family through the detail I supplied.  Any hints or help in posting rules would be helpful as I have already had great success with this site, and will definitely be using it again. Sorry quite longwinded but in answer to your question I believe that it is Muirkirk in Ayrshire.  Are there more that one Muirkirk in Scotland.

Hi, My GGGFather, Robert URE married Elizabeth SHAW 1862.  I believe Elizabeth SHAW was born in Muirkirk.  Robert died & Elizabeth married John GRAY 1867. She brought 2 children to the 2nd marriage. She had 4 more children with John GRAY. If you connect to our Elizabeth SHAW I would like to hear back from you.

Hi Finnigan,

The one thing I have discovered is that there are a great number of Robert URE's out there!!!  My Elizabeth URE born 1865 did not marry or have children. The mother, of my other Elisabeth SPALL nee Ure who was born after 1897, was Janet(Jeanie) URE nee HUGHES.  I hope this helps clarify things for you.

There are 3 of us in NZ who met through a message board and are all researching Donkins. We each come from separate children of Adelia Roach and Henry Donkin. Henry had approx. 9 children and we believe that he named his  first son Ralph.  We think that his brother was called Ralph as we have Henry (aged 32) and Ralph Donkin (aged 36) arriving in NZ in 1857 on the Messenger.
That would mean that Ralph's birth would have been approx. 1821 and Henry's birth approx. 1825. We are still hunting for Certificates that link Henry and Ralph and prove their parentage. I would be happy to pass on anything new that could assist you as it comes in :).

Kilkenny / Seeking Roach and/or Donkin families

I live in New Zealand and have established through a death certificate that my gt gt Grandmother was from Ireland.

I am looking for connections / information on her or her family especially in Ireland. This is the detail I currently have on her:

Adelia Briget Roach b.approx.1842 in Kilkenny, Ireland. Father's name on death certificate is listed as Phillip Roach, occupation "Magistrate".

She arrived in New Zealand approx. 1863. Married to Henry Donkin when she was 22 yrs old. I believe they married in Dunedin, South Island, New Zealand in 1864.

I know that they lived in the Thames area, New Zealand for some of their marriage and they worked in the Gold Mines.

She died 27/12/1920 in Auckland, New Zealand.

Thank you for taking the time to read my post.

Lanarkshire / Looking for URE's, GRAY's, & SHAW's
« on: Wednesday 28 April 10 08:59 BST (UK)  »
My grandfather came from Shotts, Lanarkshire and unfortunately he passed on before I realised the importance of discussing the family with him. If you know of these families or connect in some way I would like to hear from you.

What I think I know is as follows:
John Gray URE or John Ure GRAY - Grandfather b. 1/06/1897 in Shotts, Lanarkshire -moved to Australia in 1925 and then on to New Zealand where he lived out his life. His siblings were Jeanie, Robert, Harry, & Jessie.
Robert URE b.1863, his father, married Jane (Jeanie) HUGHES. Robert had a sister called Elizabeth b.1865.
Their father also Robert URE married Elizabeth SHAW (in 1862)and died early. Elizabeth SHAW went on to marry John GRAY(in 1867). John GRAY came to the marriage with a son called John. Elizabeth and John had 4 more children possibly named William, James, Annabella & Thomas.
