Suffolk Lookup Requests / Re: Help to find burial of HERBERT JOHN ECCLESTONE
« on: Wednesday 21 December 16 18:28 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Joan
I have not been able to trace a burial for Herbert John Ecclestone and most of the siblings have been difficult to track down too.
The line which I have been tracing is Herberts younger brother Albert and the ancestestry of the family as a whole.

Kent / Re: Edward Millen c1770-1842 Bethersden

Hi
I can’t give you the origin of that quote but it is repeated in a newspaper article dated 3 April 1849 when George Millen was hanged for murder in Maidstone.

Quote from the Maidstone Journal - Tuesday 3 April 1849

“THE BETHERSDEN MURDER. - EXECUTION.
Millen’s grandfather was also a man of most reprobate character, and is reported to have said on his death bed that "He had been guilty of every crime but murder, and he did not know if he had not done that." Millen had been frequently before the magistrates for poaching and other offences.”

Hi Bob

I have only just found your post about Herbert John Ecclestone as I have been having a rest from research.
If Herbert John Ecclestone is son of William and Maria Ecclestone then I have some research on the same family.

Kent / Re: Holy Trinity Church, Maidstone - Burial Query
« on: Sunday 10 May 15 23:49 BST (UK)  »
Hi jibba
The Kent History and Library Centre hold records of burials for Maidstone Holy Trinity on microfilm ref P241A. They also have Maidstone Sutton Road Cemetery burial records 1866 to 1955 also on microfilm.

Kent / Re: ST Stephens Church, Tovil, Maidstone - parish records needed
« on: Friday 04 July 14 13:01 BST (UK)  »
From the mid 1800’s the Sutton Road Cemetery became the main burial ground for Maidstone and surrounding area. The old archives in Maidstone held a microfilm copy of those burials covering well into the 1950’s.
You might like to check if those records are still available and if the burials were carried out there instead of St Stephens.
Alternatively the Crematorium Office at Vinters Park administer the Sutton Road Cemetery and may be able to find any records.

Kent Completed Lookup Requests / Re: Ann French
« on: Wednesday 28 November 12 13:57 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Perryjr
Extract of the Parish Register for All Saints Church Hollingbourne
Baptism 27 November 1808
Ann daughter of William and Sarah French

Trying to unravel mine from all the other French branches I ended up extracting around 1380 entries for baptism, marriage and burials from around this part of Kent. A kind of mini-one-name-study, so I checked through this and found the following-

Extract of the Parish Register for St Mary Church Lenham (Page 39 Entry 117)
Marriage 13 May 1802
William French Bachelor of this parish
Sarah Mannering of this parish
By Banns
In the presence of Sarah Freeman and John Crundale
[The witnesses signed but the Bridge and Groom made their mark X]

The Common Room / Re: Parish register burials annotation query
« on: Tuesday 13 November 12 14:32 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Angela
I have seen several affidavit annotations in many Kent parishes but I believe it was a requirement for all English burials and not just Kent.
I noted that some parishes kept a separate register of affidavit receipts as well as the actual burial register. So a burial might appear twice in the registers with one date being the actual burial and the other the date the affidavit was received.

Kent / Re: New Kent Archives at Maistone
« on: Tuesday 06 November 12 18:18 GMT (UK)  »
I was a regular visitor to the old archives but not yet visited the new archives. Having read all the comments, it sounds very much like my experience when I visited the Medway archives.
Before the old archives closed I was surprised to learn that some of the more experienced staff would not be transferring to the new archives.
I wonder if the current situation is due to an incentive scheme to encourage young children to get interested in history by providing a more open environment with that aim but to the detriment to more serious researchers.

Hi Petles
If you live too far away to actualy visit the cemetery let me know as I live rather close and can always visit and take photos of any grave stones.
