Occupation Interests / Irish Tailor
« on: Monday 10 April 23 17:39 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone know anything about Irish tailors? Is there a guild that I can contact or anywhere where there would be records?
What would it be like to try to eke together a living as a tailor? and how likely is it that an Irish tailor may have moved to Scotland? Or changed their occupation all together?

Thanks in advance

Hi Jabber41

Yes it is. I did'nt include Margaret because she was not Timothy's daughter, her birth father was a man called William Allen.
I have spent several years working out Margaret's life and only recently discovered Mary Anne. I have tracked down Margaret's birth certificate, marriage and baptisms of 4 children in Middlesbrough.
Let me know if you would like to see them.

Limerick / St Munchin's Parish

Hi

I have found ancestors who married at the above church as Church of Ireland and 7 years later as Roman Catholics. Also as i trace the family back the baptisms take place there as Church of Ireland.  I am a little confused by all this and wish to know what denomination the church was? Did it change denomination? And does this mean my ancestors from this particular branch were COI rather than RC?

Thanks in anticipation

Occupation Interests / Mariners

Hi

I am interested in finding out about mariners of the 18th century. My ancestor was a mariner at Wapping London, but I believe he was originally from Whitby in Yorkshire.

Are there any records or registers available that could help me confirm this?

His descendants lived in Whitby and they're surname 'Harland' is common in the area.

Thanks in anticipation

Cavan / Henry Murphy of Cavan

HI Everyone

I am looking for the baptism of Francis Murphy approx 1830 and his sister Margaret approx 1835 and possibly others to Henry Murphy in Co Cavan.

The family later moved to Co Monaghan (Currin parish) where my great grandmother Susan Murphy was born in 1862 (to Francis and Mary Anne (née Nugent or Gilsenan)

Margaret married James Mcentee in 1868 and lived in Cootehill area.
And also anything on Henry himself too.

Hi

I am trying to trace the baptism of Elizabeth Duck who married John Ellis (of Whitby) in York in 1731.  They had two daughters Ann and Jane both born in Whitby, I am unsure if Elizabeth would've been baptised in York or Whitby, but I know there are was a Duck family in Whitby.

Thanks
Rachel Gifford  :)

It is probably a long shot but I am looking for a baptism for Mary Sedman in the Whitby area of Yorkshire in 1679 or thereabouts.
She married Francis Ellis at Whitby In 1707 and had two sons John 1708 and Francis 1710.
I would love to hear from anyone who knows more about this family

Thanks
Rachel  :D
