This may not be what you want, but http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock shows world times online, (about 140 world locations are shown on the main page) and can be customised for anyone individually.

It MAY even have something that can be set up on a PC whilst offline, although I haven't looked into that.

That other topic you quoted mentions The CanoScan 8400F which states that it handles:  12 x 35mm transparencies

Compare this to the current "CanoScan 8800F" (SRP Inc VAT:  £ 149.00) which quotes: Adapter for 12x 35mm filmstrip, 4x 35mm slides, 120 format. It also supports 120 format film (max.6x22cm).
http://www.canon.co.uk/For_Home/Product_Finder/Scanners/Flatbed_with_Film_Scanning/canoscan_8800f/index.asp

I don't know much about this, but it does appear similar.

The Common Room / Re: Cheapest English certificates?

Thanks for that info Ruskie.

As funds are a bit tight, I am going with the thread title; "Cheapest English certificates?", and seeing how I get on ;)

If all else fails, then I suppose A$18 may have to be spent.  :(

The Oldham Register Office wouldn't have the church records for Saddleworth, St Chads. Hopefully someone with local knowledge will be able to suggest where they might be

Andy
Thanks Andy, that does help me understand a bit more.

I may do a separate post asking if someone knows which "records office" would hold marriage certificates for Saddleworth, St Chads.

I usually go to my local records office for a marriage certificate which I can photocopy for 20p.
I didn't realise that the County Records Office would do that for you.
Thats a very usefull bit of information.
This has my interest, but being in Australia, it's a bit far away.  Does anyone know if the above cost would apply to a marriage in 1851 ?

Also I have a reference from FreeBMD as Saddleworth v23 p692, and on Lancashire BMD it is Saddleworth, St. Chad, Oldham CE243/3/2.
Never having ordered any certificates before, I end up wondering WHICH records office would have the info.  Is the "local records office" that you mention, the one shown on the Lancashire BMD site as Oldham Register Office.

Any hints on getting the marriage info (parents etc) the cheapest way, would be great.

Thanks

Hi Joan

Sorry, but I don't see any of your names in my lists.

The only forenames that are in yours and mine; are William & Ellen, but William was b1829, and is the father to Ellen born 1857.

From what I can see, they didn't seem to stray far from Northowram, Halifax, Yorkshire.

Thanks for that info Christopher.

I think my lot, who are my Grandmothers family on my mums side,  are Yorkshire through and through, at least back to 1744, as far as I can tell.

I "think" the family now goes back to:
Edward Whitley & Sara Hill, who married on 28 Aug 1769 in Halifax, Yorkshire.

They had James Whitley in 1772 and he married Sarah Lee on 13 Feb 1797 in Halifax, Yorkshire.

They in turn had James Whitley in 1802, and he married Susannah Greenwood on 21 Sept 1820 in Halifax, Yorkshire.

James & Susannah being the parents to William Whitley in 1829, who is shown at the start of my first post.

William Whitley and Harriet Sharp married in 1851, again in Halifax.

Technical Help / Re: Memory stick problem
« on: Thursday 21 February 08 01:29 GMT (UK)  »
If you only have one memory stick in a USB port then it should only show up as one drive, but read this:-

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U3
Thanks for that link, I like this bit at the end "expected to replace U3 by the end of 2008, making the U3 format obsolete"  :D

No wonder those U3 USB sticks were cheap !!

I'd love to be able to get rid of that first drive and just have the one drive, although I have got used to it now.
