World War One / Re: Need some help looking for my 2x Great Grandads WW1 records

The Medal Award Rolls and Medal Card list several service numbers & Regiments:

6419 - 1st East Yorkshire Regiment
54577 - Durham Light Infantry
167223 - Labour Corps
317976 - Royal Engineers
WR328462 - Royal Engineers

The 1914/15 Star is under 6419, 1st East Yorkshire Regiment.  Disembarked into a field of war 30 Apr 1915.

He is mentioned in the Leicester Daily Post 29 Sep 1915 as one of the men arriving at the Base Hospital, Leicester, Ward D1.  Listed as sick rather than wounded.

Thanks again. Just checked out the newspaper page you mentioned  :)

His pension card has 'Alias Albert Edward Ellis' written on it. Perhaps there are records under that name.

Thanks yeah I checked that, as sometimes I've found he drops the Moyses surname

3
Nearly two-thirds of the WW1 Service Records were destroyed in a WW2 bombing raid.

Thanks, maybe his was destroyed then.

Service records for all personnel serving after 1930 are still with the MOD.

See https://www.gov.uk/get-copy-military-service-records

There will be a fee of £30, and you will need a copy of his death certificate.
Due to Covid, there is a long wait!

It says you need to know their service number to do that. But I don't know what it is.

On the forms it states quite clearly that you need a Service No OR a Date of Birth ;)

I didn't click on the form as it said 'You need to know the person’s full name, date of birth and service number' on the page

It's been stated previously on this Forum, that if a person's Place and Date of Birth, is known, then a Service Number is not required.

I believe Your Grand Father, married in the October Quarter of 1945. If He was in the Forces, at that time, then the Marriage Certificate, might confirm this. My Father was still a National Serviceman, when He married My Mother, and His RAF Rank and Service Number appears on the Marriage Certificate.

If Your Grand Father was a Member of His Local British Legion, They may also still hold some WWII, or later, Service Information, about Him.

Thanks :)

Hi.
Can anyone help me find a service number or any info on my Grandad when he was in the army. I'm not sure if he served During WW2 but we have a photo somewhere of him in his army uniform. He was called Frank Orlando Atkinson Born 17/07/1917 Hull

Thanks
