Australia / Re: which High School for boys from Carramar
« on: Monday 15 April 24 01:24 BST (UK)  »
Thanks for the suggestions maddys52. (It seems most 'high schools' only opened in mid 50s, or later and before that many were called something else. The puzzle is what name and / or location!)

Australia / which High School for boys from Carramar

I am hoping someone with knowledge of the Carramar area (SW Sydney) is able to assist.  I would like to know the names of possible high schools that a teenage boy from Carramar was likely to have attended during years 1950 to 1956.

I guess Liverpool is one possibility but wonder if there were others that I should search.

Thank you for any suggestions

Thank you Watson & Raybistre.  It's part of a bequest to a young granddaughter in early 1600s so sawcer (saucer) makes sense.  I understand that back then a saucer was not like today but a dish or shallow bowl for eating food from.

Thanks again

Thanks

Thank you all for your suggestions.

Looking further into the the family it seems the relationship may have been second cousin and the children of that cousin.

Thank you emeltom. I'm hoping to learn if others have seen the same term during their research and have been able to work out the actual relationships of those referred to as such.

I have looked up the official definition of 'kinsman', etc. but am keen to learn about practical (real) relationships that others may have come across.

The term is used in a number of family wills and is distinct from the mention of 'sister', 'brother', 'cousin', 'nephew', 'uncle' etc.

Have you come across this term yourself and, based on your research, have you been able to identify how the 'kinsman' was related? (eg, was he a half-brother or similar?)

Thanks

My recently updated ethnicity results from Ancestry DNA leave me totally confused. The results show that I have not inherited ANY England & Northwestern European ethnicity from my mother, and I have an unexpected, and abnormally high level of Scottish ethnicity on that side.
My confusion is in relation to to a few aspects.
1. Why no English when, in my own estimate, there should be about 20 to 25% on my mum's side. I understand that inheritence is 'hit & miss' and you might not get any from a parent, but NONE, when at least 4 out of 8 of my 2x gt grandparents on mum's side have known English origins!
2. If the 'no English' is accepted, then how is it that I have shared matches with scores of individuals who are from those various English lines. That is, if I didn't inherit the English ethnicity, what is used to determine how I share DNA with those matches?
3. As for my 'high level' of Scottish ethnicity but no English, I am curious as to whether other users have found that Ancestry DNA is reporting unexpectedly high percentage of Scottish ethnicity?
Thanks
