Hi guys,

Just finished wading through the parish register listings for Alberbury. It looks like Thomas Morris was baptised on 13 Apr 1845 and was the son of John and Elizabeth Morris (marriage not registered at Alberbury but must have lived nearby).

Thomas was the 3rd of at least 5 children that are registered there up to 1853:

27 Sep 1840 John Morris
04 Jan 1843 Sarah Morris
13 Apr 1845 Thomas Morris
04 Dec 1847 Jane Morris
03 Apr 1853 Mary Morris

The registered names have some very creative spellings of Morris (Mories, Morries, Moris etc)
Doing a quick lookup on FreeBMD gave a possible marriage date of 08 Sep 1831 at St Giles in Shrewsbury - but this seems too remote in terms of dates and location and I know that this is still incomplete.

If anyone would like the Morris's that I have transcribed for Alberbury I can email the spreadsheet - saves a lot of time trawling through familysearch and ancestry.com.

regards

Alex

Thanks Tara,

I wasn't sure about the Weston/Wentnor bit - it was a little unclear in the later census records. Also I found a marriage index for Thomas and a Hannah registered at Lilleshall which made me think of Weston being more likely. I think the next stage will be to try and track down a few of the certificates.

Thanks again for your help

Shropshire Lookup Requests / 1851 and 1861 census lookup for HAINES in Pontesbury
« on: Tuesday 08 March 05 11:41 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for a George Haines b c1831-9 in Clunbury, Shropshire (listed as 1839 in 1871 census and 1831 in 1881 census. In 1871 he was living in Pontesbury district 4 as a servant aged 32 and single. In the 1881 census he was living in Pontesbury district 3 (Pontesford) married to Sarah (Trow) with 4 children under the age of 10.

I am trying to trace the previous generation of Haines (also found as Hains and Haynes depending on where you look!) and see if George had any brothers and sisters.

thanks

I am looking for a Thomas Morris born c1844 in Alberbury (according to 1871 census) or Pontesbury (according to 1881 census). In 1871 he was living with his wife Hannah (possibly Lealand) in Habberley District 2 as a lead miner with 3 children under the age of 10. In 1881 he was living at Malehurst, Pontesbury District 1 with 6 children as a railway platelayer.

I think that he and Hannah were married in 1867 so he would be single in 1851 and 1861. I am trying to trace the previous generation of Morris's and see if he had any brothers and sisters. If possible it would also be nice to trace Hannah's family - she was born in Weston, Shropshire around 1845.

thanks

Montgomeryshire / Re: TROW family of montgomeryshire
« on: Monday 07 March 05 17:28 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I've reached a bit of a dead end with my Trow ancestors who originally came from Kerry (Ceri) and Chirbury. I've been working mainly from census records and compiling the list on GenesReunited.
The ones that I am sure of are James Trow b.c1804 Kerry died c1880 m.Margaret from Betwys living in Churchstoke in 1871
their children were: Edward b.c1847 Chirbury, Sarah b.c1849 Weston(my great great grandmother married into Haines family) and Cornelius b.c1852 Chirbury.
Now the interesting thing is that Sarah's son William Haines(spelt Haynes b.Pontesbury) is listed in the 1881 census as the grandson of Edward Trow b1813 Hyssington - a lead miner. Most of the Haines at that time were also lead miners based around Pontesbury.
What I'm trying to find out is the relation between James and Edward - could they be brothers? Anyone have any ideas?

thanks

Alex
