Hello Lancslass60,

Thomas Jones, 41 Duke Street, Pte., 11th South Lancs no.21612
Thomas Jones, 40 Mill Street, Sgt., KLR no. 95398
Thomas Jones, 29 North Road, Pte., R.N.D., R.F.A. no.916209

No Hugh's unfortunately...

Thank you John,

I wondered if he had been in the 20th Hussars or 14/20th after they merged and then transferred to the 3rd. I did see this link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/20th_Hussars
It doesn't have a citation but would explain his transfer to the 3rd... What do you think?

Hello Ken,

Thanks for your info, I've read the page on your link - very interesting.

I do have his 'Certificate of Service' which does have quite a lot of information but only names the 3rd Hussars on his 'Final Assessments of Conduct & Character on Leaving the Colours'. On the 1st page it says Corps for which Enlisted: 'Corps of Hussars of the Line'. On his service record is just has Hussars and where it describes which corps he is being transferred from, to the reserves, it states 'Corps of the Cavalry'.

Armed Forces / Identify Hussars Uniform
« on: Saturday 23 November 13 09:13 GMT (UK)  »
Hello, I am trying to identify what hussars regiments my gf served in between 1919 and 1929.
I know that he was in the 3rd King's Own Hussars in 1925 and when he left 1929.

His service record shows that he served in the following places:
12/08/1919 - 30/11/1920  Home   (1 year 111 days)
01/12/1920 - 12/10/1923  Rhine Army   (2 years 316 days)
13/10/1923 - 04/02/1924  Home   (115 days)
05/02/1924 - 09/10/1927  Egypt   (3 years  247 days)
10/10/1927 - 11/12/1928  India   (1 year 63 days)
12/12/1928 - 16/12/1928  Home   (15 days)

Hello Alan O,

These are the only other photographs I have of him in uniform.
The first one looks like he has just joined up and the 2nd is apparently in India where he was from 10/10/1927 to 11/12/1928.

Hello Alan O

He didn't join up until 1919 (he was born in 1902). I have a copy of his service book entitled 'Regular Army Certificate of Service' inside it says 3rd Hussars and describes him as a trooper in the Corps of the Cavalry. I've attached a few photo's, another one from WW2 and then two between the wars.

I've just spoken to my dad whose found an old army cap that belonged to my gf. It has Military Police and GR on it, on the inside it says 'J Compton & Sons 1943'

Thanks, Phil

Hello all,

Thank you for your interest and valuable information.
I have attached another photo of him in the same uniform but his cap does look very similar to one he wore before WW2. Maybe he just liked wearing it? Would he be allowed?
