Thank you for your reply.

I've checked both on Find a Grave and no luck, but I suspect not all graves are transcribed or possibly he was in an unmarked.

Unfortunately, I'm not local but hopefully one day I can take a trip to East Sussex and have a look for myself.

Thank you again for your help.

Hi

I am trying to locate the grave of Oliver Augustus George Canton.  I have found the parish records which show he was buried in the parish of New Shoreham on 7th November 1901 and I would like to find his grave if possible, but have no idea where to look!

Any help finding his grave would be very much appreciated.

Many thanks in advance

Thank you oldohiohome and shellyesq

The information from the directory is really useful and adds another location for me.

Thank you also for the info from the death certificate. I did think that’s probably what it said. He had no family in the US and I now know he died in hospital.

I really can’t thank everyone enough who has helped with this. I’ve been working on him for almost 20 years so it’s great to still keep finding new information.

Kind regards
Anne-Marie.

Thank you so much again. This is really interesting. My great grandfather abandoned his wife and 4 children so interesting that he didn’t speak about them but not surprising. His eldest son was my grandfather and I have a copy of a letter sent to my grandad once they had traced him, to advise him of his fathers death.

This has really helped with a greater understanding of his time in US.

Many thanks again

Thank you so much RJ137 for the clippings - I had no idea he was in Chicago or when he came to Goose Creek so that's another question answered.   However, I havent been able to find any trace of him in the 1930 census.

Thank you also henes teulu for the information about Vermont Street.  Unfortunately, the names dont mean anything to me, but was worth a try and another avenue to investigate.

Kind regards

Hi Carole

Thanks for your reply.  Its not clear who reported his death - this section has been left blank but something has been written across the section which is not readable.  However, he didnt have any family in US.  He left his wife and children in the UK in 1912.  I believe he died in hospital so it could have been a doctor?

I do have a fair bit of information from 1932 including his will, newspaper reports, inventories etc, but just have this huge gap to fill between 1912 and 1932!

Thanks again
