Derbyshire / Re: marriage in two churches

If a church wasn't C. of E. and hadn't obtained a licence to perform marriages a registrar had to attend marriages for them to be valid. One possibility is that the 1st church wasn't C. of E. and for some reason there was no registrar in attendance. In that case the couple would have had a later, legal ceremony. A late 20thC instance was reported in newspapers.
I know a person who had 2 marriage ceremonies because the registrar was unable to attend the church on the day planned for the wedding. To circumvent the problem and allow the wedding to take place in church,
the registrar attended a wedding rehearsal on the previous day. Bride, groom and priest went through the vital parts of the marriage service, bride , groom and witnesses signed register. Wedding party returned to church next day for another wedding ceremony with Nuptial Mass in front of guests.  In this case I presume they signed the church register once, only appearing to do so on the 2nd occasion to pose for a photo.

Thanks that makes a lot of sense

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Re: Half siblings help
« on: Thursday 16 February 17 19:49 GMT (UK)  »
What testing service did you use?

I used Ancestry, and my biological father's half-sister came out as a 1st cousin to me with possible range of 1st - 2nd cousins.  My biological father's full brother came out as close family with possible range of Close family - 1st cousins to me.

Yes I used ancestry so same for me
My aunt came up as my 1st - 2nd cousin

On the same page FreeBMD  John Bowen and a Mary Brinsford June 1/4 1860 reg dist Birmingham vol 6d page 207
I took a look on the GRO index and couldn't see any births mmn Brinsford 1864 - 1871

That 1871 entry shows him as John Bowen Jones

Quote
Their first child Bertha Bowen was born in derby 1864 mothers maiden name Brooks

Shown on 1871 as Mary B B b Mansfield Notts??

Yes sorry says Bowen Jones but I've tried looking at Bowen, Jones and a mix of both still nothing
Its 100% the right record
