Hi, Stan, nanny pops and Ray, Thanks for your help. Have looked at Flitwick airfields, think it might be Cranfield if Thomas`s regiment were there. On cwgc website found his wife and parents names, so thanks Stan and he was buried at the cemetery at the end of my street. Probably will have to get a death certificate and see if the info I want is on there. Thanks to you all DUREAY

Bedfordshire / Ran over by plane
« on: Monday 12 June 17 10:24 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I`m researching, Thomas William GARDINER. He is said to have been run over by a plane in Britain after coming back from Dunkirk in ww11 by his family. He died 21st June 1940.
I have a newspaper cutting, local to where he was from, dated 27th June 1940, which says, Sapper Thomas William GARDINER age 41 of Cleadon Park Estate, South Shields, who escaped unhurt from Dunkirk, has been accidentally killed at a camp in Britain.
I have found a death registration of a Thomas W, GARDINER June quarter of 1940 age 41 in Ampthill.
Was an airfield/camp in this area then? Would local papers there have more info on what exactly happened to him. Hope someone can help to get the full story, DUREAY

Hi Radcliff, Spent all my spare time this week looking for my notes that led me to this Martha ROBINSON but can`t find or remember why it`s this one that`s in my family tree.
I started my search with a list, from my late father, the kind you find in a family bible, is said Martha Anne ROBINSON and John TEMPLE, married 18th November 1893 (It also lists all their children, who were born in County Durham and Northumberland) I have their marriage certificate, she was aged 17 and her father was Thomas TEMPLE.
I`m 99% sure I  have this Martha`s birth certificate which says she was born Martha Ann ROBINSON on the 19th of May 1875 in Cassop County Durham. To William ROBINSON and Jane FISHBURN. She was baptised on the 10th of April 1878 at St Helens Auckland County Durham with her younger brother Benjamin W. ROBINSON.
On the 1881 and 1891 census she is born in Cassop County Durham.
Now on the 1901 and 1911 census, she is now Martha TEMPLE and I`m 100% sure she is my Grandmother, she is born in Hetton and Hetton le Hole in County Durham.
Hetton le hole is 8 miles from Cassop, so could they be the same person? Hope so.
I`ve no marriage certificates for any of her siblings but I know her sister, Sarah Alice ROBINSON, married James KEARS in Auckland County Durham in 1888. As you say maybe I should find this marriage and see who her father was.

Hi Christine, The TEMPLE family were coal miners, from the 1851-1911 census records they travelled through County Durham, maybe to where the work was. John TEMPLE`s father was buried at Christ Church Walker in 1903. So they lived there in between census records.
Mrs ROBINSON, Jane, was aged 22 and single when she married, she died age 40 with her husband William ROBINSON present. So I don`t think she could have been married twice.
Will keep looking, must find out what was going on.

Thanks for your positive replies and help. DUREAY

Hi Christine, thanks for checking for me. Hoped it was an writing error but not to be. On the 1881 census Martha was living in Shildon County Durham with her father and mother William and Jane ROBINSON. Martha was a domestic servant on the 1891 census living with a BRADLEY family in Aycliffe County Durham, so no clues there. On the 1901 she was married and living with her husband and family in South Shields County Durham.
Looks like I`ll never find out why Thomas TEMPLE was said to be her father.

Hi P and Christine, Wow P, do I really want to know what happened? You bet. Martha`s mother died when she was 12 years old and Martha`s father was present at her death so looks like her parents were still married. Her father is on the 1911 census living with Martha`s older sister. Not sure what happened in between.
Now Christine, maybe there was a mistake like yours. If you can I would love you to try and solve this mystery.
        Thanks to you both. DUREAY

Hi, looking for parish marriage records for, John TEMPLE and Martha Ann ROBINSON. They were married in Christ Church,Walker, Northumberland on 18th November 1893. I have their marriage certificate from the register office but Martha`s father is named as Thomas TEMPLE. I know him to be William ROBINSON and have checked with the registrar, they confirm that Thomas TEMPLE is on the certificate. Could this have been written down incorrectly? Hoping parish records can help.
