Thanks for your reply MaxD.

I don't think that is him as he was actually born in Northamptonshire in 1856 but ran away from home sometime after 1871 (shown in census in Northamptonshire) and changed his name to James Brown from his birth name of Richard Addington.

My Great-Grandfather James Brown was a Corporal in the 2nd Battalion Royal Warwickshire Regiment in the 1880's.  I am unable to find him anywhere on the 1881 census.  Does anybody know how the Army would register people for the census?

Also, can anybody point me in the direction of how to find any service records for this time?

Many thanks in advance.

Thanks very much.

Thanks for this.  I guess it's a trip to the Records Office to try and trace the parents of the Morris girls!

I am trying to see if I can link this Anne Morris (b1813) to Annie Love's mother - Mary Ann Morris (b1834).

I can't see another way that Anne Amadio in the 1901 census could be Annie Love's aunt.

I have Anne Morris (b 1813) marrying Fortunato Guiseppe Luigi Amadio on 31st August 1840.

They had a son called Fortunato Antonio Amadio in Northampton in 1847, who went off to live in New Zealand and also died at an early age in 1886 (39).

Thanks for all this info.  Yes, poor Fortunato didn't quite live up to his name  :'(

I 'think' Annie Love's parents were John Love (born Moulton 1828) and Mary Ann Morris (born 1834 in Ecton), but am quite happy to be disproved.  The only census I can see for Annie Love is 1881 when she is with her mother Mary Ann and older brother William.  After this she is shown as a servant at Castle Ashby, which is a whole different story.  I can't see John Love on a census in 1881, which is a separate thread.

The Amadios seem to have led quite interesting lives (and travelled the world!), but I still can't quite get the link between them and my Annie Love.

Thanks for the responses so far.

Following some help the other day (see earlier thread) Annie Love was found on the 1901 census living in Castle Ashby with her aunt Anne Amadio who was 87/88.

I believe that in order for Anne Amadio to have been her aunt, the link must have been on the maternal (Morris) side.  Anne Morris (b 1813) married Fortunato Guiseppe Luigi Amadio.  Annie Love's mother was called Mary Ann Morris, but was not born until 1834.  Is it possible that these two were sisters and this is how Annie Love was Anne's niece?

I seem to have hit a brick wall  ???

Sorry if I have posted this in the wrong place, as I know it's not specifically a Lookup Request.

I'd be very grateful for any replies.
