Lanarkshire / Glasgow area man killed by slate falling off roof.
« on: Tuesday 02 February 16 21:44 GMT (UK)  »
This is going back a bit to at least 1950-55.  There was an incident in the Glasgow area I believe in which a slate fell off a roof and killed a man.  It was in the newspaper, but I am struggling to find anything.
Can anyone help...a long shot I know.

Thanks
Robbie

I wonder if anyone can assist. Im at a point in my tree where I need to fill the gaps in. I am looking for the Boyd / Gow Connection in Cumbernauld.  Parents James Boyd Catharine Gow.  I have info on the following Children, William, Catharine, Jean but need to fill more gaps in for the other children. Mary, George, Agnes, John, Margaret, Janet.  All born in Cumbernauld between 1803-1829!

Anyone got the same connections.

Hi again Lodger,

Is there a way I can find this information out about the burials?  i.e a website I can check as there are several more I would like to see in Lanarkshire?

Thanks

Robbie

Hi there,

Long time no speak.  Im not sure if they are the same boyds, because the Boyd Im looking for is John Glasford Boyd born in 1837. He appears on the Census with our relations in 1851, however the 1st child born to William and Jean was James Boyd born in 1840...Thats what got me thinking about the John Boyd and Abigail.

Have you got any further back with the Boyds or any further forward?  I still go to Scotland regular, so I may pop in one day.  I am desperate for some old pictures too.  Do you have any??

Speak soon

Robbie

Brilliant,

Not so sure about James Clark though...It would depend if his wife was Marion Clark(m.s Wylie) plus on John Clarks death cert is says both Parents Deceased..I may need to dig up the death record for James Clark.

Thanks again!

Hi there,

My Word how do you do it!  Well done for finding that.  I already knew about John Clark dying young.  You are correct that his wife Janet Sellars(sillars)  and his father James...not sure about James's Parents names but I suppose they would fit as he did have a daughter called Agnes.......I was more keen on the Wylie Side because there is some connection to Lord Wylie I beleive, but never getting any further.

James Clark was listed as a Farmer on John's death cert, but I have nothing on Marion Wylie.  The Wylie name carried through a couple of generations in the UK but still appears in USA, where a distant cousin lives who I will see hopefully next year and her GtGT Gran had a box of paperwork that we will delve into.

Interesting indeed.

Is there other information on James & Marion??

Thank you very much, you are a great help

Robbie

Hi Lodger,

Thanks for that.  I may need to go back to the drawing board with that though as I need to be sure its the right John Boyd.

Also, I am looking at another branch of the tree...Clark and Wylie side.  John Clark died aged 43 in Cambusnethan...I just need to find a bit more about his sisters.  His parents were James Clark(he was a Farmer) and his Mother was called Marion Wylie.  Orignally from Fenwick

Thanks
Robbie

Hi Lodger,

Very long time no speak.  I guess you are still doing research.  Thanks for all you previous assistance.  When we last spoke, you mentioned info about John Boyd and Abigail Boreland and there Children.  John Boyd may have been the family member I have been looking for as I cant find him listed anywhere are the 1851 census.  It is quite likely he was the eldest child of Willam Boyd and Jean Hepburn, although it states James Boyd was the 1st registered child in 1840.  Can you let me know what info you have on John Boyd and Abigail Boreland, as they seemed to be in the Cambusnethan area.

Your help is very much appreciated.

Best Regards,

Robbie
