Hi Jo,

Sorry for not replying sooner but was not notified that I had had a reply to my message.  Only found out through a Google alert.

I do have some ABBS from Stoke Newington and have quite a lot of information on other ABBS.  Please feel free to email me directly so that I can sort out some information for you.

Hi Jo,

Thank you for posting your message.  The first step in tracing your family history is to note down all the details that you already have.  Also ask your relatives questions (Something I wish I had had the chance to do before my grandparents died).  Ask them what they remember when they were little and any people, do you have any photos, diaries etc which may help.  Sometimes there is a story passed around which may not seem important at the moment but could be a lead in the future.

I have a simple questionnaire which I can send you to help you get started.

The majority of the details I have on ABBS is pre 1901 mainly due to the fact that there is a 100 year rule on some records.  Though I do have some details post 1901 and am in contact with other ABBS researchers.

Please feel free to contact me direct on :  abbs@one-name.org
then I can help you in much more detail.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Cheryl

Dear Welsh Jen,

Thank you for looking up any occurance of ABBS in the Glamorgan Welsh census.  I will make a note of what you didn't find - very useful to know if there are or are not any ABBS in an area.

Thanks you again

Cheryl

Hi Sue,

The information is very helpful especially as I am unable to check through every census at present.

Thank you for posting the information.

Cambridgeshire / Re:Cow Fen location?

From someone who was born in Cambridge.

Coe Fen and the area nearby still floods when the river Cam is high.  The area is also near Newnham and Sheeps Green.

Welcome to the ABBS One-Name Study.

This One-name Study has been going for about 2 years and already I have a variety of information available.  I am also registered with the Guild of One-Name Studies.

I am interested in any mentioned of the ABBS surname from around the world.  I have already compiled information on the Cambridgeshire ABBS and I am now working on the Norfolk ABBS and the Durham ABBS.

I am also collecting all the births, marriages and deaths for the surname ABBS from the GRO Indexes.

Any information or queries regarding the surname ABBS gratefully received.
