Scotland / Re: Marriage lookup?
« on: Friday 09 April 21 04:13 BST (UK)  »
John's birth certificate says: John Craig born 2nd. January 1855 Bakehouse Close Edinburgh. Father James Craig shoemaker,  24yrs born Ireland. and Mary Broadley 19yrs. born Ireland. Married Berwick May 1854.
I haven't found a marriage record anywhere in Ireland, Scotland or England.
To mention Berwick, there must have been some family connection with Berwick, the next child Mary Ann was born in Berwick in 1857 and they settled there.
I am descended from James b. 1868 Berwick. He is John's younger brother. His birth certificate names Mary as Bradley not Broadley.

I also have information on James the son of James Craig and Mary Bradley. James was born on 20th June 1868 at Walkergate Lane Berwick. On Oct. 16th 1890 he married Elizabeth Smith at St. Enoch's Cathedral in Belfast Ireland. He was a soldier. They had 8 children ( so far found) The names of the children are almost the same as his siblings. The oldest, John was born in Belfast then William (my grandfather) was born at 23 Walkergate Lane Berwick. James and Mary must have come back to Berwick for a visit? or moved there for a short time before returning to Belfast. The third son Joseph is a mystery. I haven't found a definite birth for him.

Children: John 1892, William 1893, Joseph 1894-1897?, James 1903, Thomas Smith 1905, Elizabeth 1907, Josephine 1911 and a stillborn baby.

I am researching this same family. (My Dad's family)Thank you everybody for your welcome input which has helped me also in my research.
To answer the question about the relationship between Frances Brockway and John and Ann Craig:
John was Mary Ann's oldest brother he married Ann Brown in 1884 at Berwick. John was a schoolmaster. He was born in Bakehouse Close Holyrood Edinburgh on 2nd Jan 1855 to James Craig and Mary BROADLEY / Bradley/ Bradly who both came from Ireland.

Ireland / Re: Is there anyway of finding out more on where they came from?

Hi Becky,
James and Mary Craig are my Gt. Gt. Grandparents through their son William.
I have the birth certificates of their oldest son John who was born in Edinburgh. On his cert. James and Mary stated they had been married the year before in Berwick-upon-Tweed, but they hadn't. I don't think they ever married. Mary was BROADLEY. She came from Kerry (or so she said) I have not been able to find the birth of James as there are so many of them in Ireland.
I have just sent to the GRO for James' birth cert. 1868 as I want to see Mary's Maiden name on it.
If I can help in any way I'd be very happy to exchange information with you. I saw your photos. I have no photos of my father's family except a few I was sent recently, so it was lovely to see some. Thank you. Kind regards Chris Bonney ne Craig.

Channel Islands Lookup Requests / Re: St Helier Parish Registers - TITE

Hi,
Our email address has changed. I will inform Rootschat of the new one.
I am a friend of Marjorie in Australia and did the research for her. I have passed on the information and she is in touch with the original poster.
I am currently in France, but have a lot of information on the Tites back in Aussie. Will be home next month so will check again and see if I can be of any help online.
By coincidence Marjorie and I discovered that one of her ancestors and one of my husband's ancestors lived on the same street in St Helier at the same time and were both seamen, and another of our ancestors lived in the same house as another one of hers only 50 years apart.
It's a small world.

Hi again,
Great to hear the info I sent was  helpful. I have been helping a friend here in Aussie who is descended from Samuel Tite. She is the daughter of Doris Mabel Tite (William Thomas's sister) and so a first cousin of Hilda.
I have no information later than the children of Samuel John Tite and Caroline Mary Hearn. I have the children 1 William Thomas Sills Tite b.1892, who married Florence Picot 1927,  2 Florence Albina A. Tite b.1897 who married Ernest Bush 1916, 3 Caroline Elizabeth Tite b.1899 who married George P. Luke 1932, 4 Beatrice Alice Tite b.1904, 5 Doris Mabel Tite b.1907 who married Harry Dean 1932, Samuel John Tite b.1910 who married Edna Dean in 1933.
Is this all correct, and do you have the descendents of these?

Going backwards I have Samuel John b. 1865 who is the son of Thomas James Sills Tite b.c. 1831 Lambeth London. Married 7th Feb. 1860 in St. Brelade's.
The father of Thomas James b. 1831 is Thomas Tite b.c. 1806 Stalbridge Dorset married to Sarah. This seems to be where the family originated. There are so many Tites there.
I do have other info if you could let me know what you need. My husband and I were in Jersey and did some research there. (My husband was born there and his family are there) We are going again around Sept. so might be able to fill in any details then.
Do you have any family photos? or mementoes that can be copied? I would love to surprise my friend with more details about her family.

Hi Grant,
I am also researching this family. The information I have is: Samuel John Tite was born on 14th Oct 1865 at 3, Seaton Place, St. Helier. He was the son of  Thomas James Sills Tite and Ann (nee Fogwell). Thomas and Ann were married at St. Brelade's  on 7th Feb. 1860. Ann was the daughter of William Fogwell, born Dartmouth. I have a lot more info and will be happy to share what I have.
What is your relationship to Samuel?
