Lancashire / William Fitzgerald born 1857 Manchester.

I am trying to find a William Fitzgerald born 28th April 1857 to parents William and Elizabeth nee Marsh. They lived in Manchester. He had a sister called Elizabeth who was born 1854. William's father died when he was around four years old and in 1861 he is living with his widowed mother.
He is difficult to locate but does marry Clara Crawford on the 3rd March 1878 in Ancoats. It was not a good marriage and when Clara his wife died  after 1891 all the children except one supposed mystery son unable to locate went to live with their Uncle James Fitzgerald and are with him in 1901.
The children never have any contact with their father again after this and no one knows what happened to him after 1901.
Information I have is as follows: He is 33 in 1891 and living with Clara in Newton, Lancashire with children Clara aged 10, Elizabeth aged 8, Alice aged 4 and Gertrude  aged 2.  William their father listed as widowed and a boarder living in the home of George Entwistle in Manchester. He is listed as a Fireman- Stationary Engine Driver. That is the last time he is located and there is no sign of him after this point. Does anyone have any idea where he went or when or if he died please as all his family never knew what happened to him. They were told that they had been abandoned by him and he was no good. They would love to find him but have not been able to locate anything at all after 1901. Thank you for any information.

Thank you for all the information. It was interesting what was said about the marriages and the parents permission. I am pretty certain that this is the right individual and the extra information makes things clearer but there are still gaps which hopefully become clearer as I collate the information together. Thank you all.

Thank you for the replies. John Sharples was the son of a Weaver and needing the consent of parents in 1822 means he must have been a minor and needed permission to marry. So that is very promising.
The marriage is 1825 to Ann Crompton is also very interesting because you have managed to find a possible death for her husband. Richard Sharples is the Uncle of John Sharples of that I am definite and have evidence of this who is listed as a witness on the marriage in 1825.
In terms of the death of a first wife for John Sharples I have been unable to find one but what you have unearthed gives me new lines to follow so thank you.

Lancashire / John Sharples- Totally Stuck on marriage!
« on: Wednesday 18 September 19 12:40 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find a marriage of a John Sharples born 1804 to William and Esther Sharples of Tong.
He is married to Ann born 1794 and ten years older than her husband and have children James born 1827 and baptised at Saint Peter, Bolton Le Moors and Esther born 1835 and baptised at the same church. What stumps me is the only marriage I can find is one of John Sharples at Saint Peter, Bolton Le Moors to an Ann Crompton  both listed as widowed. It is possible for Ann to be widowed because of her age but John is only 21 when he marries her and it is less likely though not impossible is it? I am certain that this is the right John Sharples in my family but I am very unsure this is the right marriage. I am unable to find a marriage and a death of a first wife before 1825. The year range is narrow and I have searched endlessly to find one to match. On top of this Ann says she is widowed and I have no idea of her maiden name or a death of her first husband let alone his name. So can anyone help me please to sort this out?
Thank you.

Lancashire / Sharples 1700- 1800 Bolton Le Moors

I am trying to find a marriage for the parents of John Sharples born 1759 in Tong. It clearly states his parents live in Tong and they are James and Mary. I found a marriage for a James Sharples and a Mary Clough  dating the 3rd January 1749/50. This seemed okay but then I was unsure because when I looked for other children the date of some them mean't Mary would have had her last child Betty in 1771 and that would mean Mary was 52 when she had her and I know this is not impossible. Mary Clough is born 1719 and her husband James is born 1724. I have their dates of death but I am bothered by the children and her age of childbirth- Ann- 1753, Jonas- 1756, James- 1757, John- 1759, James- 1763, Richard, 1768 and Betty 1771. They are all baptised at Saint Peter, Bolton Le Moors and if I get this right I can go back definetively another 100 years plus but it is the ages of the children and Marys age when shee has some of them that bothers me. Can anyone help please?
