My G/Grandma Ann NOLAN and Husband Laurence arrived on the "REIHERSTEIG' 24 Dec 1864

I have Laurences Death Cert  from but it has little info on it.

I need to pull out everything I have put away.

Trish :)

Ross Patrick and Margaret Deane (these 2 listed under families catorgory, not single male or female but I think they were brother and sister not husband and wife) arrived in NZ on the14/10/1864 aboard the "Steinwarder" along with my Grander father and his family. Most of these were granted land at Whiriwhiri (between Maioro and Waiuku) under the Waikato Scheme. the family story is that that Ross and anthony are thought to of gone to the Coolgardie gold rush and were never heard of again

Thank you for your posting.  I have read the article on the Deane family sailing on the ship, it featured in a South African paper.  That is interesting that you mention about losing a child, do you know which one?  Five of the family are buried up North of Auckland at Mangatete.  I have seen the burial site on the interenet as well and think I posted reference to this earlier.  Can I ask how you are connected?  I am also trying to find ou the Gregan family connect as I am a Gregan and my friends side is the Deane.  Captain Patrick J Deane was my friends great grandfather.
Patrick James Deane is my GG Grandfather. No sorry I don't know the name of the child lost in S.A. The story goes that the had a family of 19 but only 8 survived past childhood

Have you been in here, check the Deanes out there, this is my friends family, actually missing her name off and her sister Margarets name.
Captain Patrick James and Elizabeth Deane, Sailed from England with some of the rest of the Family abt 1866 (could possibly been the Frederick Bassil as this boat ran aground in Table Bay and from what I can find out took 2 yrs to repair then on the 18/1/1866 sailed to NZ on the Frederick bassil, It is thought that they spent about 2yrs in S. A.  they lost one child while in S.A. kille3d by a Hyena.

Hi again.
Thank you for that.
The info I now have was obtained when I was in NZ in 2008.
I have a copy of "Stories of the Deane Family" which I printed off a disc I was given.
The Photos in there are the only ones I have of the Deanes and Descendants.
I possibly have a photo of Ann Deane/Nolan/Leggett which is hard to confirm.

My Mother was Elieen Jane Leggett  1912-1982.
Her Father was James Leggett 1872-1929, Son of Annie Deane/Nolan 1837-1926 and William Newby Leggett 1841-1926.

I have a photo of James Leggett and Wife.

I have PM'd you my email address.

Coincidentally I was born and grew up in Hamilton :)
