Hi Mike thanks for your post. This incident does seem a little late for the one that I am looking for! As for Parnell I believe that he is a relative of my George. And of myself! Next stop will be the police archives and court records I think. Thanks again. I will look out for the book!

Hi Judith,

More info has come to light about George!!!!

I have found out from my Uncle that George may have been on the run guilty or not from a murder charge!!!!  Ohhhhhhh! I hear you say....

It does kind of explain a few things, I have asked for help on the following thread...

Hi All,

First yes the 1999 murder was in the same street wired or what??

My ancestors name was George Sergeant.

Yes I have checked as much as I can the local papers of the time with no luck.

Just thought it might be worth throwing this to the forum as they say many heads are better that one and who knows there may be an ancestor of the victim out there with all the info??

Cheers

Hi all,

Have done some more digging and it turns out that the family oral history has sent me in the wrong direction again!!!

Arthur's marrage is after the Dunkirk evacuations so he may have been at Dunkirk if he was he was taken of the beaches.

I have contacted the National Ex-prisoner of war Association who hold a complete list of Ex-POW's held in Europe and he is not listed which bears out the fact that we could find nothing that matched his details.

So thanks for all your help.

On to the next brickwall!! lol..

Hi all,

I am researching my G G Grand Fathers trip to Australia, and the family oral history says that he may have fled the country after been accused of murder!!! Does anyone know of or have any information about a murder that took place between 1865ish and 1873ish. The body was found on Neat Marsh Road, Preston Nr Hull.

Many Thanks in advance.

Judith,

Well a years wage was a bit difficult to come by especially at age 21 although he would have started work at 14 or even earlier. even so to save a years wage in those days took some doing!!

And then he returned home within 5 years so another years wage to get home... I didn't realise that our family was that wealthy!!! Makes you wonder where his cash came from..

Cheers

Brian,

the only thing I have to go on is that he would have been captured in 1940!

Hi Judith,

It might not be him but it's the closest match I've had and all the dates fit so will go with this until I have anything to say otherwise....so many thanks for the efforts on your part......

How much would he have paid to get to Melbourne?

Cheers
