Hi all,

Basically you all have the right family. Explanations have to be given. Valariec on post number 2 Edith and Ethel we not the same person. I reviewed the Marriage document for Joseph and Edith Ward and the witness was Ethel Porter.

As for the death of William..he died in 1934 in Trois Rivieres ( Three Rivers ), Quebec. Caroline probably Died in Winnipeg, Manitoba. I did find one death for Caroline Kendall but it was not the right one.

As for Jacquie in Canada. We are dealing with a mix of two families. When William came to Canada in 1914 he did not come with his wife Catherine but rather with a Caroline ( Horner ) who he passed off as his wife. Her two Children Sydney and Ethel born Hurdus were indicated as being Kendalls. The Children obviously adopted the Kendall name as attested by Ethel's marriage in River Hebert. Sydney also adopted the Kendall name as he was found in Chicago as a Kendall. He still has living relatives in that area. As for Anthony well it seems that he will remain a mystery for a while yet.

Caroline had Also been married to a Alfred Ellis and had a child named John Morris Ellis who died in WWI. His military death certificate indicates his next of kin Caroline Ellis as living at 392 Pacific ave In Winnipeg. Border crossing for William from Chicago indicate that he going to meet his wife Caroline at that address. Bear in mind that William and Caroline were probably never legally married.

Canada Lookup Request / Anthony Francis Kendall 1888
« on: Thursday 20 January 11 18:58 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I am looking for Anthony Francis Kendall  born 1888 at Inglewood New Jersey.

His Father was William Kendall born 1855 St Enoder. William was a railway tunnel miner in Cornwall and came to the USA to work on the Hudson Railway Tunnel linking New Jersey to New York. This project was delayed because of funding and William returned to England with son Anthony and Newly married wife Catherine Hernan. I don't know if she is the birth mother.

Anthony Francis married Sarah Cooksey at Rotherham, England and had three children. During wwI he was an ambulance driver. After the war he came home to a broken marriage and immigrated to Canada in 1919. The passenger list indicates that his profession in England was ACROBAT but he was heading to River Hebert, Nova Scotia to work as a mechanic. His Father William had migrated to Canada in 1914 to River Hebert but before 1919 had moved out to Winnipeg, Manitoba. I suppect that Anthony would have gone out west but he seems to have disappeared off the face of the earth after his 1919 arrival in Canada.

I would really love to trace him and also find out who his birth mother was..
I really would appreciate any info you might be able to find.

This post was on the USA board and it was suggested that I put it on the Canadian board.

Thanks
Wayne

Hi,

I did all the research I could in Canada with no trace. I suspect Anthony Francis went to the US as his step brother Sydney was living in Chicago at the time. I have found border crossings to Winnipeg travelling from Chicago for both Sydney and William in the late 20'. Sydney died in Chicago and buried in Winnipeg.

That is why I posted on this link. Also his father William would have been Richard's cousin as he was the son of Francis, brother of Edward who was Richard's father.

Same family

I have a few of Scottish ancestors who lived in Massachusetts, but joined the Canadian army during WWI.  Canada entered the war before the US, so maybe they viewed it as joining up to fight for their original homeland?

Thanks Barry for giving me this link. I'm sure that Jim Best will be happy with this info.
