Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Re: McKie Family - Possibly Leeds around 1828
« on: Saturday 14 November 20 12:05 GMT (UK)  »
Belatedly replying to your post. I believe that this Stephen McKie (my maternal great great grandfather) was married to Isabella Brown and had a son called Thomas. He lived in Sunderland but so far I have not been able to trace him back to Leeds, his place of birth stated on the 1851 Census. I would love to know more.

That is certainly it Shaun. No wonder I could not find it. I was trying to read the handwriting on the actual 1939 record. Thanks for helping me. I don't suppose you know how I can find out if there was bomb damage in about 1941?
Thank you very much for your help.

Please can anyone tell me where this road was or direct me to a map which shows it? A family I am researching lived there in 1939. Was it bombed out during WW2?

On the 1911 Census, the publican  of The Gresley Arms (32 Henry St) is named as Ethel Bailey. Please can anyone tell me where Henry St (East) is or was? Is there any more information about the pub available?

Dear Peter

I was so very pleased to get your mail. After all this time I presumed I would never hear from you! I am a bit pressed for time at the moment and need to go back to my notes before I write you a sensible message but I will definitely be in contact and hope that together we can throw some light on the distant relatives and their past.

Best wishes

Eileen O'Hare

Durham / Typing tuition in Sunderland about 1935-1940
« on: Monday 18 February 19 16:54 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to piece together a sketchy outline for the life of my aunt following vague snippets from my mother's memory. My aunt (born 1920) attended St Anthony's Convent School in Sunderland and subsequently learned to type before employment at BHS. My mother seems to remember the name "Underwoods" in relation to Commercial training. Can anyone enlighten me further?

Warwickshire / Williams, Sports Trophy Maker, Coventry early 1940's

Can anyone please tell me of any relevant location in Coventry for an Ernie Williams who made sports trophies about 1940 - 1943? I believe there was a shop associated with the business.
