Thanks, so much JM. very interesting and helpful information you have in that post,  this will help me out heaps I am sure. Henry has been a very frustrating man to pin down, so more than likely his m c will be missing information.
Just while I think of it, the name Lovell as a first name is that commonly changed to something else?  this is one of his sons that is also proving elusive, I have no idea.

Thank you for your help
Teri

Thank you Muss I never thought to see if Frances may have had Alice before they were married, so that explains that mystery thank you.

Majm I don't have a copy of the transcript of their marriage unfortunately.  Some how I can't see Henry being the postmaster,  his eldest son was Henry Claude .M and on his death notice  it gives Henry's second initial as W. but I am not sure if that is correct either.  I know at one stage he was at Yass that was between 1900 and 1916 but that is about all I know.  I might have to bite the bullet and order a copy of their marriage certificate or something,  that should give his parents names, shouldn't it.   Thanks for all your help Teri

I am looking for information regarding Henry & Alice Williams (nee Varty)
They were married in 1882 at Narrabri and moved to Rockdale and then the Balmain area.  They had 9 children one of whom was my great Nana Frances Jane,  Alice died in in 1932 in Canterbury and I know that her and Henry  had been separated due to WW1 correspondence with three of their sons signing up, and one killed in action.

Firstly I am unable to find out when or where Alice was born she has three sisters & two brothers all with  Thomas & Frances Varty (Fanny Wilson) as parents but her  birth is not recorded.  Her father Thomas died in 1871 and her mother remarried to a man named  Albert J Penley but maybe I am missing something.

Also I cannot find a record of Henry's death all I know for sure is that he had at least one brother and he was a blacksmith at Narrabri when they met. Any help would be greatly appreciated.   Thanks for any information anyone may have .

Hi Sue,

Thank you for the information, I am not sure where this William fits in, our Bill was born in 1845, so he would have been younger in 1894 , 49years only, which would fit with the bushranging death story.

Yet you say this William Laurie was 73, so this is very confusing, so maybe he was our Bill"s Uncle (Thomas's brother) I will do some more research.  I wonder if his parents were William & Jane Gibson the same as Thomas? (our Bills father???)

Thank you so many questions I am now inspired to continue searching. May I ask where you got this the inscription from?

Yours kindly
Terry

Hi Val,

My name is Terry, my grandmother Lillian Helen Laurie(nee Harris) McMah is your cousin, Grannys mother was Margaret Annie Laurie the oldest sister of your Dad Herbert PJ Laurie..Here is a list of the all the children of William & Mary Laurie (nee O Shaughnessy)
Margaret Ann LAURIE b: 1871 in Braidwood, NSW  married John Thomas Harris 1899
Elizabeth Ann LAURIE b: 1872 in Braidwood, NSW
Frances M. LAURIE b: 1878 in Braidwood, NSW
Ada Julia LAURIE b: 1880 in Braidwood, NSW
Bertha LAURIE b: 1881 in Braidwood, NSW
Christina M. LAURIE b: 1884 in Braidwood, NSW
 Herbert P. J. LAURIE b: 1886 in Braidwood, NSW

Granny's Mum known as Annie( your Auntie) passed away in  December 29, 1933.   Her mother (your grandmother) Mary passed away June 12th1910 I have a funeral card photo that I can send you (though it is not very clear, I am afraid) and your Grandfather William well he is our mystery man.

I know that William Laurie(4) & brother Thomas (2) arrived in Australia with their parents on July 9th 1849 aboard the Scotia Father: Thomas LAURIE b: 1817 in Tynson, Dumfreshire, Scotland and died in Braidwood in 1884
Mother: Jane DAVIDSON b: 1817 in Dunlop, Ayr, Scotland, and known as "Jean" died in 1902 at Braidwood/ Majors Creek I can send you a copy of the transcript from the immigration records and that Thomas already had a sister in the colony ( thats an intersting story in itself)

Thomas and Jane went on to have to have another five children with some dying at an early age, though I must say I have kind of got stuck and moved onto other  sections of the family tree so I don't know as much about the Laurie side as I would like.  I know nothing whatsoever about Mary O Shaughnessy your grandmother except when she died, I haven't been able to find out when she came out to Australia or if she was born here or anything???

Did you know your cousins when you were growing up?  I will need to send you a personal message with my email address so that I can send the info I do have and perhaps you might have some stories you recall.  It is so great to hear from one of Grandmums cousin, honestly (longevity seems to be in the genes)  I hope you are well .  Anyhow Thank you...and hope to hear again from you.

Kind Regards
Terry

Hi Janette,
I am married to Junes son Andrew, (June is Alfies oldest daughter) Greg is his uncle, and Alfs only son.  Yvonne is Junes sister and at the moment she is overseas on holiday.
June had 6 children, Andrew is the oldest he had four brothers two whom died at a young age (childhood) and a sister Desleigh who passed away 1979 age 19.
June married Andy 1956. Andy died in 1976,  only 2 grandchildren  Yvonne married Graham 1960 and they have three children and nine grandchildren  Uncle Greg is only four years older than my husband (his nephew) and he has one daughter who is 14/15 now. He was a late starter.
Did your Dad have a relationship with Grandmother Crane/Benson?
Well seeing as your Dad was known as "Boy" then his niece June knows him as a matter of fact Uncle Greg got a photo done up for June and because he was only 4 when Alf died it's actually your Dad not Alf they are very similar looking.  I don't know whether Alf died on his way home from a funeral but I think I will PM you with my email as that would be best given that we are talking about rellies that are still kicking.
Talk soon
Teri
PS. Is Gary related to you?

Hi Dell, Janette and Merlin,

This is great I spoke with my mother in law June (nee Assay)
she doesn't have an email but she asked Janette if your Dad was known as "Boy" she said her father (dec 1956) had an older brother who was fondly known as "Boy"?
Janette do you have a brother?  I think Junes brother and sister have been in contact with someone from Rocky and also Aunt Veras daughter. She was to Charlies second wife Winifred.
She knows Auntie Iris, Vera, Les?, she never knew of Auntie Alma, so Alma must have been raised by Elizabeth Crane/Burton (nee Brooks) and then there is Sidney and James who was stillborn.
So does anyone know what Hannah died from she was terribly young still aged 32?
Alfred served in the WW2 and there is some information about Charlie and Hannah being registered as Japanese for both World wars Charlie was not interned  during the first but he was sent to a camp during the second.  I thought it unusual that Hannah registered herself as Japanese along with her husband because she was English (she must have been some character)
We went to Rocky and we visited their graves Charlie, Hannah and Winifred are altogether and amazingly right next door is one of my ancestors a Mcmah.
Have you read about Hannahs death  on the Trove website?
Sorry Dell the moderator removed your email address so you will have to send it via a Personal Message.

Warm Regards
Teri
