Wexford / Links between Furlongs and Doyles, Taghmon
« on: Thursday 15 October 20 03:31 BST (UK)  »
Seeking information about Doyles (Denis, Peter, Catherine, Margaret) from Rathanna, Carlow who came to Taghmon parish in early nineteenth century. Subsequently married into Furlongs: Peter m. Margaret Furlong about 1840; John Furlong m. Margaret (or Catherine) Doyle about 1830. :)

Wondering if there are links with your Doyle and my ancestors from Taghmon area. John Furlong married a Margaret Doyle (although our family records, about 60 years later, name her on a child's death certificate as Catherine). Their child was named Peter born in 1835. Peter seems to be fairly uncommon and it is reappearing in your Doyle line. Just wondering if you can make any connections?

Roscommon / Black-eyed McCormacks

This phrase 'black-eyed McCormacks' has come down through our family. And indeed there are some 'black-eyed' contemporary family members. Does this term resonate with anyone else from Roscommon McCormacks roots?

judyflute, I have a connection by marriage with Coyne of Roscommon. John Coyne & Margaret McCormack were parents of Bernard Coyne born 1831(?). Bernard's parents would have been contemporaries of Michael. Related? Who knows! When Bernard married Ann McCormack they moved to Lancashire. Happy to explore further. Ann McCormack is the sister of my gt. grandmother.

Monaghan / Fr Duffy

Fr Duffy married my great grand parents in Corlygorm, Monaghan in December 1861 and gave them a letter of introduction to his nephew, Gavan Duffy (later Sir). The letter was to give them a help along in Australia where the nephew was a member of parliament. Does anyone have more information about this Duffy family, in particular Fr Duffy? Just trying to get more of a sense of the times and close associates of the family.  :)With thanks

Hi FionaAnne, I think the link is that your Jane was the sister of my great grandfather Francis Darcy. I know quite a lot about the Darcy family but not so the McCormacks. (Julia DArcy was a McCormack.)
Happy to share further information. Shrimpton
