Hi I have a connection through Edmund Norris married Nancy Marshall 26/08/1834 Skeffling she was bapt16/10/1815 Kilnsea daur of John Marshall born c1779 Skeffling marr Mary Tennison 09/09/1815 Skeffling who was the son of Edward Marshall, no other information on Edward or John
gogogadgetlegs

I don't have many records for this Marshall family group, but I do have a John Marshall born to an Edward Marshall in 1779.   My Edward Marshall was born 1751 in Skeffling to Anthony Marshall (Marshal) and Anne Matthews, this Edward was married in 1774 in Skeffling to Elizabeth Coates and Edward died in 1779. There were 3 children born to Edward and Elizabeth in Skeffling: Elizabeth (1777) , Edward (1775) and John (1779). I have no information for Elizabeth Coates-Marshall other than her mention in the 3 births and the marriage and do not know what happened to her or the 3 children after Edward died.  It would make sense to me that she could have remarried and moved with the 3 children, perhaps to Kilnsea, but to date I have been unable to track her outside of Skeffling.

If you have any further information for John Marshall, Edward Marshall, Elizabeth Coates-Marshall or the Kilnsea Marshalls in general I would really like to hear from you.  I have notes for Edmund Norris and Nancy Marshall but to date have been unable to make a definite connection to my Marshalls. If it turns out that your John Marshall (1779) married to Mary Tennison is the same as my John Marshall (1779) then this would be a very welcome new information.

Edward Wilde and Elizabeth Marshall -

Elizabeth (born 1842 in North Newbald) is related to my Marshall line, although she is not in my direct line.  Her father was Anthony Marshall (born 1812 and was a cordwainer/shoemaker), her mother was Frances Smith.   Anthony (husband of Frances) was the son of Anthony Marshall and Isabella Staveley of South Cliff(e).  I do show Edward Wilde marrying Elizabeth.

I have some limited information for Louisa Marshall and Fred Evans.  They lived in Sioux Falls, SD and had a daughter named Melissa Evans, Fred was a veterinarian.  I think I have a couple of census records for Fred and Louisa stored at home, but I've only ever found the one daughter listed.

I found this snipped recently, which indicates that the family was still living in Sioux Falls in 1922.

"Dr. Fred Evans, veterinarian for the health department of Sioux Falls, SD, has resigned and is succeeded by Dr. O.W. Stanley, who was formerly city veterinarian of that city." - January 1922

I'm not sure if this will help here or not.

I've researched a line of Marshall's in North Newbald and I have an Ann Marshall that married a William Medd.  Ann Marshall-Medd had a brother William Marshall born about 1799 most likely in North Newbald, Ann and William's parents were John Marshall and Elizabeth Stephenson.  I do not have a marriage listed for William Marshall at this time, but at least one of William and Ann Medd's sons is in North Cave in 1851 and 1861.  Could this be your father-in-law William Marshall who was 82 in 1881?  Its been awhile since I worked on this particular line of Marshalls but if this sounds like it may be the families you're looking for I'd be happy to see if I can help. I recall the Medd tree was a bit confusing and I didn't pursue it for long, but I should still have my notes.

"I have a Benjamin Cobb marrying Jane Marshall in 1814."

Can you tell me where they were married or if you have an approximate date/year of birth for Jane?  I know there were some Cobbs in the South/North Cliffe area but I haven't been able to find any link between my family and thiers yet.

"My husband is a decendant of John Marshall and Charlotte Day who with their children emmigrated from Market Weighton to Weeping Water, Nebraska where we both grew up. John was born in 1830.  I remember fondly the shoe store mentioned in SKMarshall's post.  I would appreciate information going farther back in the Marshall or Stavely families.  I can provide information on those who went to Nebraska if anyone is interested."

I'm a direct descendant of John and Charlotte's son Arthur Ulysess Marshall and his wife Olive Viola Ralston. John and Charlotte were my great great great grandparents.  I would love to compare trees with you sometime.  Did you happen to know my great aunt EuVah Marshall-Christie? Most of my research on the Marshalls is based on copies of her notes and letters.

Please feel free to send me a private message. :)

"Isabella Staveley's parents were William Staveley b.1754 and Heinrietta Henderson."

Unless someone can finally show me documents or some solid proof of this, I'm still holding out that this Isabella Staveley born about 1786 in York is not the same Isabella Staveley that census records indicate was born closer to 1782 and was married to Anthony Marshall. I have researched this line out of curiosity and if you follow this Staveley tree you end up with Lt General William Stavelely as her brother, Maj-Gen Sir Charles William Dunbar Staveley as her nephew down through Adm. Sir William Doveton Minet Staveley.  There would seem to be some well to do carvers (I think William Staveley, Henrietta's husband, was a carver) the family is realted to in York as well.  The connection isn't impossible, I just haven't seen any solid proof that our Isabella Stavley is related to this line.

Quite a few of the Marshall sons were boot and shoe makers, cordwainers or leatherworkers of some kind.  Your Anthony's youngest brother John had a boot and shoe shop in Market Weighton up until John's oldest sons immigated to the U.S. (some say the first son to come over stowed away on a boat to get here) and then the rest of the family followed them in 1872. My great grand father Arthur Ivan Marshall ran our local boot shoe and repair store up until his death.  The family ran a shoe store in Weeping Water Nebraska from the time they settled there until it finally burned down sometime in the 1960's (I'd have to find the newspaper article for the exact date.). I think one of my uncles still has the old shoe making tools my great grandpa used.

"So Anthony Marshall c.1813 m. Frances Smith (1817 - 1881). Anthony appears on the census 1841 to 1881. He is a Cordwainer sometimes descibed as a master cordwainer which is a shoemaker. On the 1851  and 1861 census he has servants / apprentices living with him so must have been doing okay!"

Unfortunately I do not recognize any of these names or the location.  The Marshall's on my tree seem to be exclusively from the North Newbald, Market Weighton, Beverly and Sculcoates area in the late 1700's.

Hi SKMarshall, I too have a Marshall in my tree, and have very little info: on the family. Do you happen to have come across a Charlotte Marshall chr. 26-12-1782 St. James. Sutton. Her father was Andrew Marshall, no name for her mother. I have wondered where Andrew came from, the only one I have found so far has been in Stokesley. Nrth Yorks. But I cannot be sure that it is the same Andrew.
Charlotte married Daniel Wilson 13-10-1801. Hull.
Daniel was a "Baker" by trade.
Can anyone help me please.
