Devon Lookup Requests / look up Richard GILL Totnes Devon
« on: Sunday 10 June 12 17:00 BST (UK)  »
hello if anyone has the time to spare to check Richard Gill born 1828 on the 1851 census, i have followed him on every census from 1861 - 1901 and is easy to follow. However he gets married to an Ellen Boon in 1851, i cant find them together on the census but would like to find out who his parents were. So he must be living with parents or on his own at this point before he marries Ellen. In 1851 he would have been roughly 23yrs old.

He was born in rattery devon. I would like to find any siblings etc from this also.

many kind regards.

Hello can anyone help me find Thomas Gill on the 1871 and/ or 1911 census'? he was born 1855 in Totnes Devon, father was richard gill mother ellen gill (formally Boon). He crops up on other census' for example in 1881 goes off to london to join the police. Just wondered where /what he was doing between 1861-1881 which would fill in some other gaps i have.....

Devon / Re: JOHN MARTYN ex-police detective exeter police 1850 onwards
« on: Tuesday 28 February 12 17:10 GMT (UK)  »
hello, thank you for your interesting information about John Martyn!  Alfred Martyn had a brother James Martyn whom is my great, great, great grandfather, so john martyn is my great x4 grandfather. James married Annie Taylor and had a daughter named Annie Elizabeth Martyn who is my great great grandma, to cut a long story short this side of john martyns family ended up in carlisle where my great grandma was born, so the 'martyns' kind of finish there as my nanna is half italian so the martyn side of the family stopped with annie elizabeth martyn as no boys were born (i dont think so anyway) from james martyn.

i have the information from the census regarding john's visit to henry eyre yes its very interesting, i wonder why he was visiting? i dont have a connection in my family tree anywhere, however its a bit of a mystery as im unsure where James ended up (he disappears off the census' after his wife Annie dies young, and then leaves his child (annie with John Martyn, so my great great grandma was brought up by john martyn from the age of 4/5 approx)  if i find any other info i will be sure to share with you.

this is very interesting thank you for sharing your finds! i didnt think i would find anyone on roots chat looking for the same family!

kind regards x

Family History Beginners Board / Re: Richard Henry Morris - cant find birth
« on: Friday 24 February 12 20:05 GMT (UK)  »
hello to everyone who has responded to my post re: Richard Henry Morris (or possibly Gill), I would just like to Thank You all for taking the time to do some research for me, I'm sorry I haven't responded sooner, I've had no internet due to moving house.

I am overwhelmed about what you have found out! It is fascinating!  :o I will go through all the information you have all shared with me methodically and get back to you with other information I have.

The information that has been found seems to fit in well with the little information I have surrounding Richard, including births of his children, marriages, census finds etc. I cant believe the information that Daisypetal found regarding the detail of the tatoo that this richard henry gill may have had. I do have a picture of Richard (who was known by my family as Henry) of which i will upload at some point. I will ask my nanna if she remembers Henry having a tattoo on his arm with the same initials on it. It may confirm these results that you have all found.

Thank you all again for the fantastic information that may well relate to my Richard Henry Morris / Gill and i will keep you all up to date with any further info that i find.  ;D

Family History Beginners Board / Richard Henry Morris - cant find birth
« on: Sunday 19 February 12 17:17 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone help.............

My great great grandfather is Richard Henry Morris, I have a marriage certificate dated 1906 with some details about Richard, apparently he was born in 1885 and his father was Thomas Morris a police constable. Richard married Annie Elizabeth Martyn in 1906.

I have searched for months to find a birth cert for Richard Henry Morris, but have hit a brick wall. The only birth in 1885 in ludlow for a 'Richard Henry Morris' shows the father as William Morris and not Thomas of whom is written on Richards marriage cert.

There is a registered death for Richard, 8th march 1953 in Carlisle Cumbria. which is correct. (I am yet to order this death cert)

The only clue as to where Richard may have been born is on the 1911 census where it states he was born in Paddington London. Whether this is true or not I have no idea.

I cannot find Richard on any other census pre 1911 or anything that links him to his possible father Thomas Morris. I don't know who Richards mother is either.

If anyone can help with finding Richards birth record or point me in the right direction this would be much appreciated.

Kind Regards

Cumberland Completed Lookups / Isabella NICHOLSON 1911 census lookup??
« on: Sunday 19 June 11 20:15 BST (UK)  »
hello

can anyone find on the 1911 census:

John NICHOLSON            B1856
Isabella NICHOLSON       B1858

and their children:

James NICHOLSON              B 1878
Mary H NICHOLSON             B 1879
Jane NICHOLSON                 B 1884
Alexander NICHOLSON        B 1887
Elizabeth NICHOLSON         B 1890

Living in Carlisle Cumberland/Cumbria on most of the other census's i can find them quite easily. John is a coach painter/maker on the 1881, 91, 01 census's, but not sure why i cant find them on the 1911 census.

if anyone could have a quick look for me that would be very helpful,

Thank you  ???
