We have just proved by DNA analysis that the Templemoyle Lindsays are not closely related to my line but are part of a Ballymena Lindsay cluster.

So I have still looking.! A recent find in Gulladuff, Maghera could be promising!

It could be as they were  in a similar geographical area.

You would need to chase the most recent spokesperson for this Lindsay line.  I think she comes from a long line of Lindsays of Kirriemuir & Dundee. Her mother was a Barrie, perhaps related to the famous novelist of that area?  She has promised me details for our website but as she lives in Florida, I suppose it will take sometime!

I cannot add to the above Scots details as my Lindsay line farmed in the Moneymore/Maghera/Bellaghy area of Co.Londonderry and were thought to be Scots who come to Ireland in the 1600's as part of the Plantation of Ulster. I can trace my line back to 1794 in Ireland.

My Lindsay DNA suggests a close relationship to East Scottish coast Lindsays of Dundee/Kirriemuir but can't get the connection until I can get more details of Scots Lindsays of this area.

Perhaps you can give me more details of your Lindsay line and if they ever had any connections with Ireland?

Donegal / Re: Andrew Lindsay

Hi,
I am conducting research on the Lindsays of Ulster and recently came across your posting.

Although my line seems to be centred in Co.Londonderry/NE Tyrone, I recently have come across a close DNA match with a Donegal Lindsay line.

We are both Group1 in the Lindsay International Scheme and appear to be within the so called "Scottish Cluster" and slightly different from other documented Ulster Lindsay Goups.

I am awaiting further details of this line but I note that the first name Stewart appears regularly in your line.

The name Stewart is also a favoured first name in my tree so we could be connected.

Have you had any DNA analysis done on your Lindsay line?

I also have been talking to a Andrew Lindsay of Drumahoe, Co.Londonderry, just south of the City. He claims also to have Donegal Ancestry.

I would be interested to hear more about your Lindsay line.

Thanks for all the data.

It looks like this is the Lindsay line I have been looking for.

We are both Lindsay International Group 1 and we have a close, 1 mismatch out of 43 markers indicating a probable common ancestor within the last 12 generations.

Unfortunately, this line seems to have given up their roots programme. Is anything known about this line locally or are there more Lindsay researchers in the Dundee/Forfar area?

Many thanks for the data.

I found the same data about a month ago after a lead from Canada!

The dates could just about fit if James had married twice and Nancy was his first wife.

Checked the local custody records of Ballyscullion Templemoyle but records don't start until 1871 and the the COI church beside this graveyard was not built until 1846!
So these Lindsay graves predate the COI Church!

I suspect this graveyard is administered by Ballymena Council and was open to all denominations, not just COI, so knowning which Church to approach is very difficult!

I have read that this site was "cursed" in medieval times and abandoned by the RC Church, hence the name "templemoyle"

Any information on this mysterious graveyard would be most welcome!

Derry (Londonderry) / Lindsays of Bellaghy, Ballyscullion. Co.Derry

Hi,

I am conducting research on the Lindsays of the Bellaghy, Ballyscullion area.

I have got back to Francis Lindsay ( 1794-1879) and I think his father could have been James as he appears to be mentioned in the Co.Londonderry Census 1831.

Townlands appear to be Drumlamph, Ballymacpeake, Mullaghboy, all near Bellaghy.

Anybody got any ideas about this area or where James came from as I cannot find any reference to his grave  in the Bellaghy area?

I am conducting research into the Lindsay family on an international basis and a lead seems to go to the Dundee area of Scotland.

The line appears to be centred on a Robert Lindsay, born 1821 Kirriemuir and died 1904 in Arbroath.

As anybody heard of this line?

Many thanks.
