Ayrshire / Re: Looking for Nisbet of Loudoun/Galston parishes

There is a tree on Ancestry owned by (surname) Paterson.  It may be owned by the person you are enquiring for - but if not - it may be worth having a look or contacting the tree owner

You can also check the Surname Interests board - link at bottom of this page under TOOLS

Thank you, I'm not a member of Ancestry.com but I have passed your information on to the person who is looking for information.

Thanks everyone. I have checked out and traced a number of the family on the OPRs and Statutory records on scotlandspeople and various other sources, so I do have a bit more on the family. I am not a member of Ancestry.com, I don't normally go into the site. I was hoping to find living family who is researching this tree.

Thank you for your replies, they are appreciated. I do have a bit more information on the family but was hoping that someone on this site maybe a descendant of Archibald Nisbet/Elizabeth Craig, or who may know someone connected to them still in this area.  One of the family (James) went to America, Matthew I think moved to Galston but no idea what happened to the rest of the family.

I am asking on behalf of someone who is a decendant of Nisbets who were weavers in Loundoun/Galston parishes, mainly Loudoun.

Archibald Nisbet married Elizabeth Craig, and they had children, family names include Archibald, James, Richmond, Janet, Margaret, Matthew, John, Robert, Jane etc born around 1822)/30's  There are burials recorded in the OPR for the Newmikns Church.

Does anyone have these names in their Nisbet family?

Ayrshire / Darvel
« on: Thursday 31 March 22 12:06 BST (UK)  »
Darvel is about to celebrate 150 years becoming a police burgh and we have decided to collect information and memories of Darvel folks. We're looking for stories and anecdotes and any historical information. If we get enough we would like to have a Darvel book published so if anyone has a connection to Darvel, past or present and would like to pass on some information or their stories, whether it's about your family, work, school, friends, neighbours etc as long as it's relating to Darvel, please let me know.

To give you an idea of what we can use, anecdotes, historical information, old photos or postcards, stories, poems etc

My grandmother was a widow thanks to WW1 and she married Alexander Brown, b 1871 in Saltcoats. They lived in Rankinston but I don't think there is any connection though.

Probably the best information at that level is to contact the archives in Edinburgh or Glasgow https://www.ros.gov.uk/our-registers. Although many documents have been accrued by the government offices, there may still be some in private archives such as Mount Stuart in Rothesay. Many of the documents for Loudoun have been scattered i.e. some military records for the 4th Earl are in California University. I would think either the Edinburgh or Glasgow offices would be of more help, at least they may know where to get the information. If you lived in Ayr or Glasgow, you could probably access the index to the Register of Sassines or the Great Seal volumes from the local libraries, but in either case there, it would take a lot of time trawling through them. The Great Seal is about 11 volumes of minor charters with only the last few volumes in English then further back, in Latin.

I think for any confimation, you will need to look at the sassines and charters.

I can't add any more. I live in the area and never heard of Pischeinheuch. There certainly were Camerons around at that time but none of the old maps refer to that particular place.
