The reason I am looking for him is that he would be my great grandad. Basically my great grandmother got pregnant and sent away. Nothing was ever reveled in regard to the father. Only recently did an old aunt of ours say that his name was John and he dug water wells in the area and lived in Trebedford which is a very small estate just outside of llantwit major.
I figured even if I could possibly track down a couple of viable names that perhaps I could find someone who has a story etc. I know it's a long shot but sometimes I figure it's worth trying right.

Glamorganshire / John (Well Digger) Trebedford, Glamorgan

Hi All,

I am trying to find out any information on a John that lived in the Trebedford area by Llantwit Major. He probably lived there around 1925-1935, or could have lived there his whole life. He probably would have been around late twenties at that time. The only other information I have is that he dug water wells for the area.

If anybody recalls coming across any info it would be greatly appreciated. Also if anybody knows if that job came by way of the town? and whether it would be worth pursuing town records? It is a long shot, but right now, I have nothing to go on.

Yorkshire (East Riding & York) Lookup Requests / Re: Birth Information - ST CLAIR

Thanks carol for your reply. The wife's side of the family (durbin) witnessed the marriage so the is nothing new there. Hooliej kindly responded to me in regard to what her family knows about frank as she is a third cousin to me. She has a bit more info than I do, however it is no more facts than what we know.
I have that his father was an architect. She has in her family info that it was as a marine or some kind of ship architect. Wonder if anyone knows of any specific place to go on that. I looked up some architect stuff online but there really isn't too much information that I can access online.
She also mentioned that he didn't approve of the way his family was in the sense of a strict Victorian upbringing which is why contact seemed so limited. It still says that they were st Clair though. I just don't see how not one of the many families looking at this line can't turn up the family tough.

In 1901 he is a General Labourer at the Docks.

He may well have something to hide. Was he a bachelor on his marriage?

On the marriage certificate, it does mention that he is a bachelor. Anything could really be falsified though if he were on the run. I am going to try a take a look at the father and see if he is on any architect lists.

He did live with his wife's family for a time at their house as well. She already had a son out of wedlock and the mother and father tried to pass him off as theirs in one census and then as Franks in another, but it wasn't his as he was born Francis Bowman Durbin, then became another Frank St Clair after the marriage.

He just seems like a really interesting man. Wish that I could find out more, however it is starting to look unlikely that I ever will. Win some, lose some.

Thanks both for the reply. I actually do think he went by a different name, but don't know where to start frankly.

The family story goes that he may have been french although I am not too sure about that.
That he sailed aboard the Cutty Sark. I have looked at the book which contains the lists of crews and haven't been able to match anything up remotely with age, nationality etc.
That he may have killed a man in France or aboard a ship and that he came to England to escape.

As you can see there are a whole lot of wild stories about this man. Interestingly enough, they have actually come down the line and a few second and third cousins of mine have told me they heard the same thing.

That doesn't leave me with a whole lot to go on, and I really don't know where to go from here with him. The other lead I was following was that he put Frank St Clair as his father and occupation as Architect. I am going to do some snooping on the directories that a couple of people gave me and see if I can turn up something there too.

Thank you both. I will have a look and see if I come up with anything. All I have is that I think he is English, I at one point lived in Hull I believe, although haven't confirmed. Thanks again.

Yorkshire (East Riding & York) Lookup Requests / Birth Information - ST CLAIR

Hi All,

I am looking for someone who might be able to help me locate any birth information for a Frank St Clair. The information I have is that he was born in Hull in 1868. He put that on every census I have (1901 and 1911) but I can't find any information about him since before his marriage in Wales in 1894.

I have searched the census information for around Hull in 1871 but cannot find anything. I have searched also under Sinclair, St Claire, etc but haven't found anything else. The other thing I have is that his father is also a Frank St Clair and his occupation was Architect. Frank St Clair the junior was a Ship rigger as his profession.

If someone can help me by suggesting where else to look I would be grateful. I haven't been able to find out anything about this guy and all family stories have turned up nothing so far.

Thanks in advance. Sam.

Occupation Interests / Architects?

Hi All, I was wondering if anybody had run across anything that resembles a list, group, club etc or Architects that would have been for approx 1840-1860?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
