ITBookworm,

Thanks for the details regarding SP.  I do believe I will be subscribing soon.  The only access I have to Scotland records currently, is very limited, so I am hoping this will help me!

Hi sancti,

I once came across the 1851 census with the William Banks name on it too, but then I could not locate it again for some reason.  Do you know if the Montrose Royal Lunatic Asylum was for people who were really disturbed or at that time did they admit people with illnesses that we know more about now?  If it is the same William Banks that I am looking for then there is abt an 18 year age difference between he and his wife. (which is probably not too uncommon back then)

Do you need a subscription to SP to view death records?  I am quite a newbie to genealogical research so I am trying to learn as I go.  I must say, it is quite addicting!!

Thank you for your reply,

banksbaby

Hi,
I am looking for any information on William Banks who married Janet Watson B: abt 1814 Leven, Fifeshire.  I know William Banks' occupation was a Cabinetmaker.  They had a son by the name of Robert Banks B: abt 1848 in Blairgowerie, Perthshire & D: 24 May 1937 in Dumbarton, Dunbartonshire.  Robert was a Tailor.  From 1851 to 1861, Robert & his mother (Janet nee: Watson) resided with his Grandmother Isabella "Belle" Watson (nee: Carr?) in Rattray, Perthshire.  An 1871 Census shows him to be living with his mother in Dundee, Angus.  I have Robert living in Meigle, Perthshire in 1881; Dundee, Angus in 1891; Dumbarton, Dunbartonshire in 1901 until his death in 1937.  I cannot find his father on any of the censuses & am assuming that he passed away between 1847 & 1850.  Unfortunately I do not have any information regarding William's birth either. William is thought to have passed away in Dundee, Angus, but I have no evidence of that or the cause of his death, if in fact, he passed.
Any helpful hints on how to find out this information would be extremely helpful.  Is there any way to view gravestones online for the different cemeteries in Scotland?

Thank you in advance!  :)
