Westmeath / Sherlock and Cox family, Mullingar
« on: Thursday 23 October 14 10:48 BST (UK)  »
Looking for information regarding the Cox and Sherlock family from Mullingar. My knowledge on them is limited.

My great great grandfather, Henry Sherlock was born 1819 in Mullingar, and died 1866 in Dublin. He had a brother called Joseph and married Eliza Cox in 1849.

Eliza Cox had a brother called Richard, he married a lady called Rose.

Thank you in advance.

I'll definitely be signing up to findmypast.ie, thank you :)

I don't suppose you came across Henry Sherlock and Eliza/Elizabeth Cox's marriage at all? And their parents?

Thank you again!

They just love getting in a bit of trouble don't they  ::)

I assume Richard and Rose are her parents maybe? There is a Richard Cox on the link you sent for the GV!

I just purchased the burial of Eliza Sherlock in 1886 via the Glasnevin website. It says "had been a carpenter's wife"!!

She's also buried with -

Jane Divine, aged 30, 20 Jan 1865
Thomas Magon, aged 58, 4 Nov 1897
Margaret Mahon, aged 77, 26 Jul 1918

Eliza's informant was Bridget :)

Looking at the English Census

He is with his parent's 1861, 1871, so far so good.

1881 he is NOT with his parent's ~ he married Bridget in 1878.

So, where was he in the surrounding years.

HUM there is a 1901 English Census which looks like him, as a boarder, back in his home parish !

Tara

Oh wow! We always believed that he died, as on Frederick Bushell's army papers it says she's a widow!

So sorry for not replying sooner, had to take the dogs out for a walk before it got too cold!

Thank you for the info regarding certificates, I will be ordering them ASAP!

I have been looking into Geoffrey and Mary Anne, and like you can find nothing for either! My dad always said he believed there was a Cork connection but was unsure how.

I'm confused by the Prison record, as Mary Anne married Geoffrey in 1878, but according to the Prison record she's going by her maiden name.

What a confusing family  ::)
