Longford / David/Donald/Daniel Johnston
« on: Tuesday 20 December 11 10:39 GMT (UK)  »
I have a David alias Donald[Daniel] Johnston who was transported to Australia in 1831 aboard the Edward [2].
His trial was in Longford 10/3/1830, his offense was stealing clothes, and his sentence was ten years. He was originally from Cork. He was 27 years of age when convicted, listed as single.
Can anyone help me find a transcript of the court proceedings from Longford??I have no idea where to start looking.
Thanks for any help  :)

Thanks JM

You are a gem. I'm willing to bet that is the Patrick Flynn on the mc. I will send this info to his relative, Michael Flynn, he might know more. I get the feeling there is a family relationship somehow, somewhere..... Off to read the links now :-)

Cheers
Deb

Hi Guys

An update.......I have been in contact with the current anglican minister at Blayney concerning a second parish registry for Carcoar, no luck I'm afraid, they only have one parish registry for Carcoar from 1851. It would seem my next move would to be to check the parish registries from Orange for Elizabeth's birth, hoping that it was somehow missed being transcribed to NSWBDM.
There is a ray of hope, I have been in contact with a relative of Patrick and Annie Flynn (the friends who gave consent for Daniel and Ellen's marriage). We are hoping to find the connection, could Ellen have been an underage friend/relative from Ireland? The Flynn's migrated from County Cork Ireland, in 1843. Both were catholic. Patrick, b.1816 parents were William Flynn and Mary Doyle, Ann nee Russell, b. 1815 parents were Martin Russell and Mary Moore.

Next question, does anyone know if the parish registeries from the C of E, and the Catholic churhes of Orange are available to research/view through the NSW libraries or any family history groups?

Hi JM

Elizabeth was married 1880 at Cudal, NSW, Catholic Church. I deduced her birth year from her dc, which had age at death and age at marriage. It also gives her parents as Daniel and Ellen. It also says she was born at Orange NSW, but no minister was present for her burial, so I'm not sure what she might have been baptised as....C of E or Catholic.

Did it mean a brother of the parents, or a brother of the deceased?? I took it to assume jane's brother Thomas (my great grandfather) but he would have only been about tenish in age.

Hi JM
I am attaching Janes dc.
Honora was the last to marry, in 1870 age 22, Elizabeth in 1880 age 21, Thomas in 1881 no parents mentioned on these 3 mc, and Ellen in 1870 age 18 (her mother gave consent)
Both Michael and Daniel Jnr were baptised Catholic, as they were baptised on the same day parish Erroll, county Carcoar 1853. Thomas was baptised 1851 C of E 1851 by P P  agnew.
Daniel has been called a settler, drover and farmer on the certs I have.
Honora lived bathurst, Ellen lived cadia, Elizabeth lived cudal.
All children carry Johnson surname except for Michael and Honora, which have Johnston

Thanks Guys, I will certainly try contacting the current minister in charge at Carcoar, as well as Blayney , in search of any such registry by A.A Agnew, the minister that married them.

As for Jane and Elizabeth's birth certs, I am only able to access the NSWBDM, etc, online at present for research, and nothing jumps out at me as possible birth certs for either of them.

You are generating new ideas for me thou, so thankyou all for that. if anyone has any ideas on possible birth certs for them, I'm more than willing to listen :-)

Cheers
Deb
