The Lighter Side / Re: TheGenealogist: Free 1 Month Diamond Subscription
« on: Sunday 22 September 19 16:34 BST (UK)  »
I had to put in my card details but as long as I cancel before the end of the month sub it should be fine.

Apart from this offer, what's so good about The Geneaologist though over FindmyPast?

Denbighshire Lookup Requests / Re: Denbighshire Parish records - Dr. Evan Pierce
« on: Wednesday 08 February 17 11:10 GMT (UK)  »
Dr Evan Pearce is my  5 times great grandfather.  As far as I know he had 6 children.   Evan jr, John, Robert , Henry, Mary and Caroline.       Evan(jr) Had 1 son.    Robert had 2 children. Caroline had 4 children.    One of my aunts told me that Dr Evan Pearce lived at Conway Castle, plus had some influence in finding the cure of Cholera.

Hi barbwiles, good to hear from you.

Evan Pierce sounds like a remarkable man. I haven't really done much more research into Evan Pierce but if this is of any help I did discover that Ann Williams, the mother of Calvinistic Methodist minister Henry Rees, also lived at Cefn Fforest.

Thus, I do wonder whether this Ann Williams is related to William Williams of Cefn Fforest mentioned earlier in this thread. One clue maybe is that William Williams' grandson William Jones married Helena Evans, the granddaughter of the congregational minister Owen Evans.

The Common Room / Re: Find My Past £1 for 1month

I can't find any new £1 offers but if you need particular access to US/Canadian records then a 12 month US sub to FindmyPast is only $34.95

Access to UK census but not parish records.

https://www.findmypast.com/starter

Also you can get 4 months of Ancestry at the moment for £20.

The main link to the offer seems to have been taken down but this one still works. Won't last long though.

Found it here,

This is an old thread .................

are you sure - this one seems to be dated January 2016

http://britishgenes.blogspot.co.uk/2016/01/ancestry-4-months-premium-membership.html

I overlooked the January date but all I can say is that you can definitely still purchase a four month sub for £20.

Denbighshire / Re: John and Jane Morgan marriage (White Lion, Talybont innkeepers)?
« on: Wednesday 09 November 16 12:50 GMT (UK)  »
birth certificate for Adelaide would confirm Jane's maiden name. Finding the marriage without would be guesswork.

Adelaide Morgan dec qtr 1857 Aberystwyth vol 11a pg 64

Turns out her mother's maiden name is Evans.

Name:   Mother's Maiden Surname:    Order:
MORGAN, ADELAIDE       EVANS     Order
GRO Reference: 1857  D Quarter in ABERYSTWYTH  Volume 11B  Page 64

So you're telling me they featured Ancestry.com prominantly in the programme but wouldn't show a screenshot of someone using this website?

Call your credit card company and dispute the charges.

Charges won't be high enough for credit card compensation to kick in. Think each one has to be over 100 quid.

It looks like an interesting show but does anyone here feel that the Ancestry DNA service was plugged in the most recent episode? I didn't think that was allowed on the BBC. It wasn't a blatant advertisement but it bordered on it.

The person from DNA Ancestry (I think he was the Vice President) was given the opportunity to market it. It was an almost text book marketing pitch.

The Trewern refereed to as Jane's place of birth in the 1871 census is next to Llanrhaiadr-yn-Mochnant directly to the East according to this map

http://www.visionofbritain.org.uk/maps/;jsessionid=CBE4780578D19EF2553DAF85536EFB7E?layer=europe&xMin=3137033.66741&yMin=2965121.78782&xMax=3139833.66741&yMax=2967921.78782

Still confused over the Penybont birth location of her child Mary. There is a Penybont just south of Talybont that I didn't notice but Montgomeryshire was clearly given in the 1871 census not Cardiganshire.
