Hi Eadaoin, Do you mind if I ask where a list of UCD graduates is available please?

I have the N.U.I. Calendar for 1933 (fat book) . . . it gives a list of all graduates up to then - presumably covers UCD, UCC and UCG. Feel free to ask!

Thanks eadaoin. I never even thought of it being an offline source. Thought I'd missed something new coming online!

Laois (Queens) / Re: Baptised Ballinakill, married Abbeyleix
« on: Wednesday 13 May 15 07:20 BST (UK)  »
I have a number of ancestors born and baptised in Ballinakill, though all the marriages I have for them appear as Abbeyleix.  They went on to live in Ballinakill.

My question is, was Ballinakill a sub-parish of some sort to Abbeyleix?  Why would Ballinakill natives not be married in Ballinakill?

I am going by Rootsireland transcriptions, where the parish is given as Abbeyleix.  Any comments or suggestions?

In RC terms, the Abbeyleix area was part of Ballinakill parish until the 1820s. It would make sense that someone could have been baptised in Ballinakill, but if married after the parishes were separated, would be married in Abbeyleix.

She isn't in the list of graduates of UCD.
I've looked at Hevey, Heavey, Heaphy, Heavy

Ireland / Re: Records of Hearings in Chancery & Incumbered Estates

Whatever records there are should be in the National Archives. They have Chancery pleadings listed on their website. From a bit of Googling though, a lot of these records were destroyed in the 1922 fire. Perhaps another thing to check, once you know of any solicitor involved, is to see if the solicitor's records are available.

There are loads of other examples of 'Lied' given in the Tralee parish records. Suggests it is a placename. I don't think a priest would have accepted someone lying anyway.

What religious denomination was the family?

Assuming that she was Catholic, parish registers for Bantry are available at www.irishgenealogy.ie. Mary Neil is a common name.

You can apply via GRO Ireland, they charge 4 or 5 Euros for a research copy.

Yes, but it's genealogy centre practices I was asking about ie if you only want one record and paying the sub isn't economic, as in your case, will the genealogy centre sell a single record.

I know this query is sorted but I wondered if anyone knows if it's possible to contact the genealogy centres and buy a single or a few records from them, and how much they would charge?
