Thanks for guidance Shane - have just received the copy marriage cert from GRO, Roscommon & as you said, it does give far more information than the Church Marriage Record purchased from IFHF/rootsireland.ie - which makes me wonder how many other of IFHF Church Records I have purchased ( and I have spent quite a lot of euros on their site whilst researching my Irish CARPENTER/KELLY tree!) - have been a waste of money!!
Although I have used Family Search site for the LDS indexed records, I often find I come up with either nothing or far too many possibles when using their site-perhaps I am not using it efficiently? But I may well try again on Family Search for civil records which might answer a few incomplete enquiries to date.
The civil marriage Cert from GRO does indeed show GGF's father as MICHAEL KELLY & now I am able to confirm GGGF as MICHAEL.
It would mean that GGF PATRICK was born in 1834 approx- do you think I have any chance of getting details for GGGF MICHAEL ( ie his DoB, marriage, death ,his children etc) - or am I hoping for too much!!?
Regards, Liz

Thanks- yes I have the HUGH born 1818 to Hugh & Bridget ( & yes- gt Gdad could easily have "lopped" around 10 years off his age when he married his 2nd wife Catherine (nee Boylan) aged 26 yrs).

Also, the tradition of naming children after Grandparents does indeed point to the possibility of Hugh's 1st marriage being to  Mary Briody in 1846 & their 2 eldest being baptised Bridget & Hugh. But have been unable to confirm from any copy certificates obtained via IFHF as info is vague/ missing.

From your 2nd entry you mention a link to 2 possible death records-have a copy of Civil death record ( again from IFHF) - for Hugh in 1879 @ Oldcastle Workhouse-but once again, as the informant is A Samuel Moore of Oldcastle Workhouse rather than a relative- I am unable to confirm if this is my GG Hugh. ( Am also advised that the "log" records for the workhouse did not survive so I cannot check out relatives from that possible source either!)

Perhaps you could forward the link again.

I did pay 2 substantial amounts to Eneclann @ Trinity College, Dublin-they did not turn up any useful facts, but suggested I try & find Hugh's 1st wife's death cert as my next course of action & a possible way forward. However all the death certs for a Mary Carpenter ( prior to Hugh's 2nd marriage in 1867)- are not the correct Mary Carpenter as either the age or informants do not tie in.

Thanks for any guidance you are able to give though, Liz

Thanks Shane-hope this is correct re Civil Record showing more info-to date have spent literally hundreds of euros researching both sides of my tree & am often disappointed at details on records being vague or missing & therefore of no assistance!

Obtained the dates of birth for my Granddad Patrick Kelly's siblings some years ago when I stumbled upon the Balisland Parish records of births online with direct access!

Thanks-already have copies of 1901 & 1911 census records.

Have just purchased copy Marriage Record from IFHF & although it is definitely the correct record for gg PATRICK KELLY of Balisland & MARGARET LOUGHLIN of Killinure on 20.2.1871 in the Parish/District of CLONMORE, Co Wicklow-there is no info re gg Patrick's father ( nor Margaret's father) that would enable me to confirm ggg being MICHAEL KELLY ( as per1853 Griffiths Valuation for the smallholding in Balisland).

A little disappointing.

Any further help much appreciated.
Liz

Seeking descendants/ family tree details of the Kelly family who lived on a small (15 acre approx) farm in the Balisland area. My Gt Grandfather was PATRICK KELLY who was married to MARGARET LOUGHLIN & they had 10 children including my GRANDDAD PATRICK b.Balisland 1884-d.1963 in Coventry, UK. the 1901 census shows 8 of his siblings living at home :Michael aged 27/ Laurence aged 26/ Ellen aged 22/ Kate aged 20/ Mary aged 18/ Denis aged 14/ James aged 12/ Margaret aged 10 & I believe there was a Bridget living elsewhere at the time of the census.(Granddad Patrick listed as a young boy of 16 at the time)

By 1911 Gt Granddad Patrick had passed away & wife Margaret is shown as the head of household, Farmer with 5 children remaining at Balisland: Ellen, Mary , James, Denis & Margaret + their Uncle JOHN LOUGHLIN, bachelor.

If you are a descendant of any of the above & are able to help me clarify family tree it would be greatly appreciated.
( Note: Griffiths Valuation of 1853 shows the land rented by MICHAEL KELLY who could well be my GGG)

Seeking help/ confirmation from any descendants of HUGH CARPENTER ( My GGG ) who as a widower married CATHERINE BOYLAN @ Ballymchugh, Cavan in 1867. They had 3 children: Mary b. circa 1869/ Ellen b. circa 1870 & my Granddad Michael b. 1873 - d. 1925 @ Crossdrum, Oldcastle, Co Meath. The children were all born in Westmeath & Grandad Michaels Baptismal certificate is for St Michaels, Castlepollard ( As is Ellens).

GGG HUGH's 1st marriage may have been to MARY BRIODY @ Clonmellon, Meath in 1846 but to date I am unable to confirm this from copy certificates obtained ( too little/ incomplete information on copies). If so they had 4 children: BRIDGET b. 1846/ HUGH b. 1850/ THOMAS b. 1853 & PATRICK b. 1855.

If you are descended from any of the above or are able to help it would be much appreciated.
