Having a problem with another place name/word on Anne's mothers death certificate?
It was registered - at Kilchoan (Western District, parish of Ardnamurchan, county Argyll, Scotland)

Thank you all once again for your help

I am so grateful to you all -  it all falls into place now.

Carol thank you - I'm sure your right about it saying  from the same place - don't know why I didn't think about that myself.

Some time ago, I had saved this census record for 1841 but wasn't sure it was the right, as the place name on the embarkation record had me in doubt, it now fits with where Anne's mother should have been in 1841. Also the 1851 record fits.

I had also saved the christening records from IGI - RE: children of Anne McColl & Alexander Henderson. These also now fit.

Many thanks to all for the help

Regards
Gwenneth

Thank you all for your reply,
I'm in Australia & is why it has taken so long to get back to you. Also the reasons for not having a clue where the place is that was given for Anne's mother on her embarkation record.

I wonder if the place could be Savary, Morvern, it may have a spelling of Savare on the document ?

Anne's husband Donald McPherson's father (Allan) had a farm at Morvern in 1838, from his embarkation record.

I have uploaded the full ships embarkation record (28 Oct 1838) for my McPherson family as they were written by the same hand, it might help.

It seems from marriage & death records of the family, here in Australia, that the family lived around Argyllshire.

Donald McPherson  (1790 – 1876) death certificate lists his place of birth as Argyllshire, Scotland. Parents:  Allan McPherson & Sarah McGregor.

Anne McPherson 'nee Henderson (1796 – 1865) death certificate lists her place of birth as Kilchoan, Argyllshire, Scotland (thanks for helping with that one). Parents:  Alexander Henderson & Ann McCall.

Donald McPherson & Anne Henderson (as yet no record found) were  married about 1817 at Kilchoan, Argyllshire  Scotland. Taken from both the death certificates of Anne & Donald McPherson.

Most of their children's death certificates list place of birth as Argyllshire. Son Allan's birth place (on death certificate) is listed as  Inverness, Argyllshire.

As the family arrived in Australia before 1841 it makes it hard to workout any of the parents from census records & don't know/found any of their siblings.

Thank you all,  once again for your help - hopefully I can find the rest of my McPherson family if I can sort this place name out.

Regards

Gwenneth

Thank you,  Mike & Carol for your reply, yes Kilchoan, Argyllshire, Scotland seems to fit.

Do you know or have any idea what the place name (on Anne's arrival record in Australia) is for her mother Anne Henderson. The first image I uploaded ?

Can anyone help with these place names?

I think the first one is: A Native of  Ardnamurchan (parish) Argyllshire, Scotland. Daughter of Anne Henderson of  ....?  ?

The next two are the same place - I think they are: Kilchrenan (parish), Argyllshire, Scotland

Thank you so much Ken, I'm sure you've found the right record, this is wonderful.
Do you know where I can find more on

RE:  "They left together for Gibraltar in June 1864. The 2nd Battalion went to China (later Japan) at the end of 1864."

I was beginning to think I'd never find him (my gg grandfather) or if the family story that was passed down had any truth to it or not!!
The story goes their first child, a daughter was born in China but they lost her, something to do with taking a wall???
The next child a son was born in Japan about 1868. He was 1 year old when they arrived in Australia.
Do you know of anyone being granted land by the Queen for their service? As that was another part of the story handed down that I can't find anything about?

Thank you all for your help and sorry for the duplicate post - wasn't sure where to post as just a beginner with family research.
Not sure how to understand army records as all records I've found seem to date after his arrival (1869) in Australia.

No not sure at all wozzle - our family has his middle name as Edward RE:  headstone, however all records I have only state John Butterfield or John E Butterfield so could be him.

Do you know what the word is after Sulford ?
Thank you for your help
