World War Two / Re: Chindits
« on: Sunday 30 October 11 19:56 GMT (UK)  »
It looks like my father-in-law spent a lot of his time in India and Burma in hosital.  One hospital quoted was BMH Coloba in 1945.  His unit was TBRE 5 Field Company 219 Field Park Company and he went out to India in April 1942.  It also states he Entered Concessional area in January 1944.

Does any of this pin him down to any particular area?

I am researching my father who served with 61 Air Supply Company RASC and was on the second Chindit campaign in 1944.  Prior to that he was stationed in Ceylon (now Sri Lanka), training the air despatchers.  He married my mother out there in 1943, she was a nurse at the RN hospital, COLOMBO - I am wondering if this could be the same hospital to which you refer. If you think it might be I have some photos which might be of interest.

I should have done this earlier.  There was a BMH Colaba - see this thread

Robert, thank you for your time and trouble. I have seen a photograph of the Kirkyard and it looks a tranquil place. Did you visit? I thought Mary Ann Veale may have been Richard (my paternal gr gr grandfather)'s second wife but the dates you have given mean she was just a young girl when she died.  The family seems to have had more than its fair share of tragedy.  Thanks again, Jim.

Spooky, my Dad's Brother George Veale was a butcher in the Army and then in Whitburn, Co Durham just after WW2

The Lighter Side / Re: An amazing coincidence!

I haven't been researching long but love this site for providing the means to hear other folk's stories like yours.  When I first started searching the web looking for clues to ancestors I lloke for my Grandfather and grandmother. I knew quite a lot about them and was able to put in bot their names and their marriage date.  I got a return on a couple with exactly the same names as them and the other man died in the same year as my grandfather.  Now the names are quite unusual, James Storm Veale and Frances Annette Erswell. Both James died in 1929.  The only thing is this other couple were from Ontario in Canada, or at least the man died there, and my grandparents ended their days in Berwick on Tweed.  Its difficult to accept the evidence sometimes, don't you think.  Anyway nowhere near as big a coincidence as yours but thought I would share it.

Buckinghamshire Lookup Requests / 1901 Census Lookup for Mary Woodford
« on: Friday 24 February 06 14:54 GMT (UK)  »
I am asking for a look up in the 1901 Census for Stone, Buckinghamshire for all details of the household of Mary Woodford (b 13 Sep 1888) so she would have been about 13 years old at the time.  Grateful for any help. Thanks.

Aberdeenshire Lookup Requests / Monumental Inscription Belhelvie Kirkyard Stone 16
« on: Thursday 23 February 06 13:59 GMT (UK)  »
Could anyone please tell me the full inscription on this Gravestone.  I have the following information so far that the stone records the names of Elizabeth VEALE, 11 Oct 1857; Mary Ann Veale, 19 June 1891;Richard VEALE,  25 Nov 1883; Margaret STORM, 6 Aug 1882.

My gr grandfather Richard VEALE married first Margaret STORM and second Mary Mackie.  This I know from his death certificate. However, he died in 1926 aged 81 years.  It seems logical that Margaret died young (if the dates above are dates of death she would have been about 41 yeas old.  Mary Ann Veale may be Mary Mackie, but who are Richard and Elizabeth.  Could they be children?  I do nto think they are parents because I have Richard's parent's as Francis Veale and Jane Robertson.  Any hepl appreciated.
