Wiltshire / Jane or Ann GLEED - Purton
« on: Thursday 09 February 12 12:55 GMT (UK)  »
Robert and Jane Gleed had at least 7 children between 1783 and 1802, all baptised in Purton. However, there is no marriage record around that time for Robert and Jane Gleed. There is only one from 1781 in Wroughton between Robert Gleed and Ann Gleed.

According to the gleedery (a website that documents all people with the name Gleed), the marriage licence bond calls her Jane, but the marriage register states Ann. He seemed to think that this meant Jane/Ann may be the child of a close relation or brought up in the same household.

I am wondering how or why this link might have been made. If anyone can shed some light it would be very appreciated.

Gloucestershire / Re: NASON - Clifton, Bristol

Thanks Sandra. You're right - William did marry Ann James, and have a daughter named Maria. The age they listed in 1883 (18) might be a little off though, because his age was listed as 58 when he died in 1876 (which would make his birth abt 1818).

Gloucestershire / NASON - Clifton, Bristol
« on: Wednesday 25 January 12 14:14 GMT (UK)  »
I have been searching for William Nason, b. abt 1818, who was transported to New South Wales in 1834. His convict records show his 'native place' as Clifton. He was convicted at Bristol Quarter Sessions, so this presumably refers to Clifton, the suburb of Bristol. His death record shows his mother as Maria, but lists no fathers name.

Any help tracking down William's birth record, or any other details of his life in England would be great.

Thanks
Mell

Thanks Harry. They were married on 24 Feb 1793, but the first child I can find wasn't born until the 1 Dec 1794. I might be missing some children.

East Lothian (Haddingtonshire) / Humbie - Marriage entry
« on: Tuesday 24 January 12 06:27 GMT (UK)  »
I found a marriage entry on freereg for Alexander Stanners and Jean Sibbald, both of Humbie, in 1792. It is recorded as at Humbie Parish Church, but in the notes section is states:

Irregularly married at Edinburgh by William Gordon "and have given satisfaction to our Session."

I was hoping someone might know what this means - if anything.

Thanks
Mell

I'm having a little trouble putting all the information together...there are a lot of posts!!

Can you give a couple of basics -- what you know, what you want to know -- in one post.

I just found a database with a Bridget O'Rourke born 1832 who married John Stokes in Tasmania and had 12 children with him. There are other possibilities if you can provide her husband's name.
