Angus (Forfarshire) / Chivers factory Montrose (1920s-1940s)
« on: Sunday 23 September 12 16:10 BST (UK)  »
I Am trying to find photos / stories of workers in the Chivers Factory especially around 1925-1935

I have got a photo taken of some of the staff, and would love to find someone with the full version or other versions of it.
its my great grandmother Annie Crowe she is bottom 2nd from the left.

I don't know who any of the others are in the photo so that would be lovely to find out if they were her friends. and if there is any other photos.

I also had my grandma and great aunty work there in the 1940s during WW2 so any info or history pics etc on then would be great.

Ive not found much yet on the montrose factory just on the business as a whole.

thanks

As I have tried to explain, 'your' William is not the son of John and Martha.   (Their son was born Wigton 1810 and married a Rachel).

'Your' William was son of William Latimer and Ann Hodgson - as detailed by others on this thread, William senior bp.14/4/1771 Arthuret, son of David (and Sybil, nee Waugh), a brother of the John who married Martha.

aww thanks so much Annette explains all the problems been having!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I don't believe your William Latimer is the one born 1810 Wigton, son of John and Martha.   That William went on to marry a Rachel McCeary in 1837 and indeed, on 1851 Census, he is with wife Rachel and your William is also listed with wife Margaret.

Your William consistently says he was born in Arthuret although birth year varies between 1808-1811.   I believe he is more likely to be the William Latimer bp.17/10/1805 Arthuret, son of William Latimer and Ann Hodgson.   He certainly doesn't appear to be the one born 1810 Wigton, son of John and Martha.

Annette

I wondered about that, but in 1891 there is a widowed James Lattimer with his mother Margaret and two children, Mary Jane aged 17 born Newcastle,Northumberland and William,15,born Bromfield,Cumberland. RG12 piece 2497 folio 12 page 17.

Sorry, meant to add that that seems to tie in with the info in the first post. I wonder, does Rachie have James's birth cert?

the James with his mother and two children is the correct James for definate as we Know William was the one who moved to Northumberland and Married a Mary Robinson. (He was the black sheep of the family because his grandparents brought him up and yet he moved to where is mother was from originally)
No Birth certificate found am trying to find it as we speak actually!

Occupation Interests / Night Watchman in the 1940s?
« on: Saturday 15 October 11 18:08 BST (UK)  »
Hi, Im hoping someone may know this cos i cant find the answer anywhere!

My Paternal Grandfather was a "Watchman" in 1942 he was in his 30s so he was capable of fighting in the war.

in 1933 when he got married his occupation was a house painter.
yet in 1942 when my father was born he was a "night watchman"

they were living in the centre of Cheltenham at the time.
His health was good, no underlying problems from what i can find

what was a watchman and what did he do?
also why wouldnt he of been called to fight in the war?
he died in 1983 and his occupation was a retired painter and decorator again.

many thanks
