Wicklow / Re: Davis Town

Only now getting back to sourcing the Irish links.

When I revisited the 1891 Census, Mary Lyons' place of birth was just given as Davis Town, Ireland.  I have just discovered there's a Davistown in Co. Offaly?  So I may have been looking in the wrong area anyway.

Still not got a definite on her maiden name.

US Lookup Requests / Re: Arthur/Pease

I'd like to exchange info, Layla.

I can send you my details on Ancestry.co.uk and Genes Reunited.  I also have quite a lot of e-mails and some pictures.  I haven't been onto the Arthur tree for quite a while but will be re-visiting it tomorrow, I think!

I'm not sure if I've done a typo on the 'Pease' as there is an anomaly about the change to the family name.  Somewhere, way back, it was Peake

Glenys

Is it possible to send me your e-mail address and I will forward what I have directly to you?

Cornwall / Annie Beatrice HOSKING/DUNN
« on: Friday 13 February 09 14:47 GMT (UK)  »
I'm looking for any information on Annie Beatrice Hosking born circa 1888 - Cornwall.  She was to be known as Beatty for most of her life, I believe.

She married **** Dunn in Penzance in 1912.

She would be the sister of my grandmother, Grace Louisa Hosking, and I believe she had descendents in the Skelmersdale area of Lancashire until relatively recently.

Thanks

The will in question is actually a copy of the original that is with the Eddisford branch of the Peake family out in Australia!

The names are really confusing aren't they?

I've PM'd you with my e-mail address.  Feel free to contact me!

Cambridgeshire Lookup Requests / Re: Dowling and Harrod

Tony, I was bowled over to receive your reply!

Strangely (and who believes in coincidences?) I had only just been going over the family history stuff yesterday evening after a break of a couple of months!

I had e-mailed my husband's cousin, David Arthur, in Australia to say I was picking up the threads again.  David has done most of the work in tracing the Arthur clan; I'm a bit of a late-comer!

If you can let me have an e-mail address I can send you John Arthur & Elizabeth Harrods Marriage certificate.  They were Thomas William Arthur's parents.

My main computer crashed a couple of weeks ago and I have photos of Thomas William on the hard-drive.

Sarah Dowling was his first wife and the mother of my husband's grand-father, Thomas Sydney Arthur.  Thomas William (Sarah's husband) emigrated to Australia and re-married.  He had a further family out there -2 sons - Nelson and Beresford, I think.  The wife of one of them is still alive and has given David heaps of information about the Arthur connections but we knew very little about Sarah's family.

I have asked David if I can pass on his e-mail address to you.  I'm sure he'll be fine with that.  In the meantime, I'll get on to the old computer and drag the stuff off the hard drive.

But it's all down to you!  Many thanks for your help.  Just need to crack the link between John Peake the younger and Simon Peake, husband's 3 x grandfather...

I'm chuffed to bits.

That would give the exact number mentioned in Fore & Aft (the book).  It also gives us a little bit more to go on, i.e. introduction of different names (e.g. Eland;)

David will be cock-a-hoop!  The other researcher has been doing it for even longer than David and has come up with a great deal of information (including the John Peake Will) ~ and all from Australia.  Puts me to shame!

This is fabulous!  I agree that the John Peake seems to be the same one, a copy of whose will we have, the dates, names etc., tally exactly.  The will is dated 1780.

William was the son mentioned in the Will, the one charged with setting everything to rights.

You cannot believe how excited I am at present!!

I am absolutely thrilled!  I am forwarding same to our cousins in Oz who have done an enormous amount of research from the other side of the world!

I think that I may have found the errant son, John Peake.  One of the same name was deported in 1791 on the Active ~ trying to work on that now!  Oz cousin sent transcript of Old Bailey trials....

Thanks again.  Oh, can you tell me if All Saints is the old churchyard?

Thanks
