For anyone interested in the Adela story, the following link gives a bit more information on what took place 100 years ago today.

There are pictures on this page https://www.facebook.com/adelahare1917/. They are holding another event in Holyhead for relatives living in the UK. Message them.

We had a wonderful day, started on Sean O'Casey bridge unveiled plaques to each ship on opposite sides of the bridge, speeches, singing and a minutes silence, Dublin Bus laid on a bus to bring us to the boat and we went out to Kish lighthouse, where prayers were said and the 3 wreaths and our roses were set adrift. We were well taken care of, fed & watered, and didn't pay for any of the trip, Guinness and Dublin council sponsored the event. It was fantastic.

Thanks Sinnann,
Seems I was barking up the wrong tree. Though today I found a tree that mentioned an Edith Emily Warley that married a Michael Tyrrell in Ireland 1901.
Father John Warley mother Sarah Humphrey Goodrick, living Yorkshire.( Even though I had the wrong Michael) I looked up the census for Edith as this would be the year she was due to marry.

Should read Leavening.

Thanks again Sinnann

baptism Wicklow Ireland parents Frank TYRRELL & Anne

Elizabeth 16 Jan 1872 Arklow
Michael 24 June 1873
John 12 Nov 1875
Francis 19 April 1878
Henry 2 Nov 1880

Hi, would anyone know if Johney's brother Michael in the above quote from Ladyhawk is the same Michael Tyrrell that was the Master of the Adela, which was attacked and sunk in 1917.

I have found Michael living in number 5 Oxford rd, with wife Edith and kids
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Dublin/Rathmines___Rathgar_East/Oxford_Road/39884/

Also on the Crew list for the Adela in 1915, living at the same address - 5 Oxford rd.

http://1915crewlists.rmg.co.uk/crew-member?crew_member_search%5BlastName%5D=tyrrell&crew_member_search%5BfirstName%5D=michael&crew_member_search%5BvesselName%5D=adela&crew_member_search%5Bcapacity%5D=&crew_member_search%5BbirthPlace%5D=&crew_member_search%5Bsubmit%5D

So my question is, is this the same Michael Tyrrell born to Francis and Anne, I cannot find Michael and Edith's marriage which would confirm this.
I'm not related, I'm interested in the Adela and all who sailed on her.

This year will mark the centenary of two U-boat attacks on 14th December 1917 the SS Hare was targeted as it traveled from Manchester to Dublin Port, also on the 27th December the SS Adela was sunk as it traveled to Liverpool.

An appeal for family members of the victims of both attacks has been issued.

The relatives of victims, local historians and community groups from the Dublin Docklands area plan to erect memorial plaques on Dublin’s North and South Quays, hold memorial services and produce a publication.

Great to hear from you Kiernan63,
Myself, Sean and Angela the descendants of Jane, Elizabeth and John Hampson/Hamson have been in touch via FB. We would love to hear from you, if you post a couple more replies here you can p.m me on this site, as I wouldn't be as brave as Sean putting my email online.
My mother knew all about the Australian side of the family, I remember growing up hearing the story of your father's tragic accident, though clearly I wasn't paying enough attention.......
I have pictures, though most are of the twins, I think they used to send letters regularly, possibly to Georgie Jones or my mother.
So post a few replies here. Regards 251
