There was RUSHTONS COTTAGE in the village of Calton which was pulled down c.1930.   An account of the cottage and the Rushton family can be found in the book "Calton is my dwelling place" by David Swinscoe

Try borrowing two books from your local library  "Swinscoe Blore and the Bassetts"   and  "Calton is my dwelling place"   both by David Swinscoe   You will  find Swetnam and a number of variations of the name.

Try borrowing a copy from your local library of "Swinscoe, Blore and the Bassetts" by David and Martine Swinscoe 1998.   That gives a fair number of Poysers.

Bertie Cecil Kidger and his wife, Agnes, moved, from Ilam, to the farm and lived there for twenty five years. In 1940, Mabel Kidger, contracted meningitis and, because of the heavy February snow, had to be carried by sledge to Ilam. She was taken to hospital but, sadly, died and was buried in Ilam churchyard.

Sydney Allen, age 23, was working as a farm labourer on the farm, he also contracted meningitis and died. Local opinion says that the illness was contracted by infection from one of the horses. There appears to have been an epidemic of meningitis, around this time, as Vera Smith, from a cottage opposite the school, in Swinscoe, also died of the disease.

I am so new to this site that I do not know what pm means !

However I would like to know about your Allcocks and Parkes as I am considering doing an update of "Calton is my dwelling place".   What about the alternative spellings?   I do have photos of both of the houses/farms in which they lived.

I see that you are interested in Allcock/Parkes in the village of Calton.

In my book there are two Allcocks and Ellen at Field Head 1851 and Tom at Beeches 1970    There a 22 Alcocks at various places in the village.

I have 2 Parkes at the Post Office 1851 - Jonathan and Elizabeth.  There are 4 Parks elsewhere.

Are these yours?
