United States of America / Help Please

My Great Grandfather Bartholomew Kidd was born in America (no further info) in 1863.  He returned to Scotland and was married in 1884 to Elizabeth Smellie in Falkirk.  His parents were Thomas Kidd, a labourer, and Ann McDonald or Kidd. She later remarried and became Ann Meikle.
I can find no trace of Bartholomew prior to 1884 either in Scotland or USA.  Neither do either of his parents appear anywhere.
Can anyone suggest the best way forward with this search.

Stirlingshire / Ordnance Store - Stirling

Does anyone know of where an Ordnance store would be in Stirling around 1900 - 1927.   Although he was a Tailor, my Great Grandfather's occupation at his death in 1927 was an Ordnance Store Worker.   Thanks.

Thanks Jerose

Only one I can find in 1891 is an 18 year old soldier with the argyle and Sutherland Highlanders, barracked near to Stirling Castle. Born in America but british subject.....not to worry, I will get there.
Cheers

Thanks Fergie38
James Kidd was my grandfather and that address is where my father was born.
I believe the Bartholomew you mention was the youngest of my father's uncles

Hi Jorose

I cant find Ann on any Census.  However, she is shown on Bartholomew's marriage register as his mother, and shown as Ann Meikle (formerly Kidd) and maiden name McDonald.   She would also appear to be alive in 1884.  I suppose it may be she remained in America and Bartholomew came to Scotland sometime between 1864 and 1884 by himself.

Thanks Sandra

I know Ann Kidd remarried someone with the surname Meikle.  Her maiden name was McDonald.  I also discovered that Thomas Kidd was deceased by the time Bartholomew married in 1884.   I dont know when Thomas died, or whether it was in America or back in the UK, or when Ann remarried.

Hi
Thanks Stewart

yes Bartholomew Kidd was my great grandfather.   I know he was born in America in 1864/65.  I have been unable to find any trace until his marriage record in1884.  He was shown as a Tailor (Journeyman) which I understand is an apprentice.  I therefore assume he worked for someone else.
I also know his mother remarried someone with the surname Meikle, although I have been unable to find out if that wasin america, or back in Scotland

Hi

I wonder if anyone can suggest the best place to start looking.   My great grandfather Bartholomew Kidd was born in america in 1864/1865, possibly to Scottish parents Thomas and Ann Kidd.  There is no trace of him in Scotland until his marriage in Stirling in 1884.  He then lived in Stirling until his death in 1927.
