She was married to Alphonse Joseph Berard on 10/09/06. It's listed in the database for the Manitoba Vital Statistics. She's Ethel Annie. The marriage didn't last long and none of the family spoke of it. She tended to use different first and middle names from time to time. Bill didn't know she had been married before. She told me she'd been a B three times -- Ball, Berard, and Buckner.

I have a copy of Ethel's first marriage, but not of her second marriage to Bill Buckner. That was probably in the US. My parents and I visited them in Brooklyn in the 50s.

Thomas and Julia came over with Claude and Ethel in 1902, headed for Winnipeg. Rose Bissmire, their niece, travelled with them. Then the following year Edgar came over to join them, and in 1906 my grandfather Fred arrived with his wife Eliza and their three children Frederick Thomas, Bessie Julia and my father Stanley. They settled in Winnipeg as well. Edith had died in 1885, so none of them stayed in England.

I always wondered what happened to Claude's fourth child. My middle daughter and I are planning to visit Claude's gravesite at Prospect Cemetery in Toronto this spring.

Claude's third child was named Louise Julia Ball. Her mother Minnie died giving birth to her. I knew Louise quite well, but only met her sister Edith once.

Thomas Ball was my great grandfather. His eldest son, Thomas Frederick (Fred) was my grandfather. The next child, Edith Elizabeth died at 5 years of age and is buried in Abney Park Cemetery in London.
