Hi Julie

So sorry about the misspells!

I've run  it through the spell checker (something I should have done before!) I hope this s makes it more readable
Apologies but I'm not very good at this and haven't got a proper bead on what may have been said/suggested so far. I cannot even find that I've sent you an earlier message.
BUT, today I have been drawn back to your enquiry by some mystical thread, it seems. Having read the short details of your enquiry, this morning, I am more than convinced that your Granddad (Thomas George King) is my Uncle - my fathers brother.  My dad  - Francis Eric King, was born in Surbiton in 1903.
I have a copy of a family wedding in Fulham which shows present, My father, his brother Tom and brother Alf and their father Frederick Ernest and their sister Betty (mother of the bride, Patricia)

If this sounds interesting - let me know and I will let you have my email address.
Best wishes
Barry

Dear Isobel

You may have already discovered this source of information produced by P&O and entitled "Passengers and emigration ...". I'm sure that you will find that it is very informative and hopefully, goes some way to answer your question:

http://www.poheritage.com/Upload/our-archive/research-guides/passengers/passengers_emigration/Passengers%20and%20Emigration%20-%20Web.pdf

I wish you luck with your search and add a thought: the British Army used to allocate soldiers to be an officer's personal servant (called a 'batman') to carry out the duties of a valet. Often, senior officers leaving the service would take their batman with them into civilian life. A similar situation existed in the Royal Navy where the ship's Captain took his coxswain from ship to ship an often on into civilian life upon retiral. The coxswains duties require him attend upon his captain to attend to his needs and assure his personal safety at all times.

Best wishes

Helloo Julie -- So hope that you are still there and able to receive this.

My name is Barry And today I sat at my computer asking whatever happened to my Dad's Mum and whilst Googleing Granadad's name came cross your posts

And left me in such shock at reading out the names And the clincher was reading the reference to Patricia Mangiacapre - my cousin - Dad's niece.  So I knew there could be no mistake. I was at her weedding in Fulham when she married Frankie (a U.S. Navy sailor) in 1946 when she was
aged 16years and went to Brooklyn. We have family pictures of that wedding

Francis Eric was my Dad- (Confusingly known to all as Tom) but we did have an uncle known as "sailor Tom").

Dad and his brother Alf married two sisters Elsie and Marjorie Curits and had seven boys between them - Francis & Elsie: Paul, Christopher & Barry (twins) and Stephen and Alf & Marjorie: David, Martin and Geoffrey. Only four of us left now!

Oh do get in touch, if you are able - there's so much to share.

hoping to hear from  you

Barry
