Someone on this site mentioned the book by F. Taylor.  I've just found out that a copy of it is at Leicester University.  I have sent them an email to see if I can get it out on loan.  I am doing a lot of research about Breedon because my great grandfather was John Gillies Shields who was the lord of the manor there, as well as Melbourne and Isley Walton.

It would be great if anyone has any history of Breedon that they could pass onto me.

Thanks,
Debbie Rea

The war memorial was built from Breedon stone which my great grandfather John Gillies Shields owned.  He owned all of Breedon.  I lived there for a year and now lives abt 10 miles away.

Hi,

It has been said that the mother of Robert Burns (Agnes Broun) and the mother to our Elizabeth Shields were sisters. Logically, that would mean that the mother of Eliz. aka Betty Gillies would have to be Janet Broun.  We were then told that because of this Betty and Robert Burns were full cousins.  I am really struggling to figure this out and wondered if you had anything you could provide me?

You can email me directly at (*)

Many thanks,
Debbie Rea

At the moment my internal clock is upside down!  I am now awake at 01:15!!!  So, I will stay awake a little longer and then hit the bed!

Not sure what you mean that your yahoo has expired.  To my knowledge yahoo emails don't expire.

Where are you living - I am in the UK and go up to Scotland at least once a year to do research.

Renfrewshire / Hugh Shiels/Shields of Eaglesham
« on: Monday 23 April 12 19:54 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

Am wondering if anyone is researching the Shiels/Shields who lived in Eaglesham?  I am trying to find particulars of a Hugh Shields s/o William Shields and Jane Conal.  Hugh was b. 1767 (Eaglesham) but that's all I know.  He does have a brother John b. 1767 labourer from Fenwick, William b. 1771, James John b. 1773 and a sister Janet b. 1776.

Thanks for any help.

There were definitely Youngs connected with the Shields who emigrated to Vermont as seen in the Shields-Young letters which can be googled.
