Yes I am still researching these men ;D. None the wiser though. Did a I get sidetracked bigtime. 2 yrs before I get back here. Shame on me. Hahahaha.

I have been going over things, a couple of  people have different parents for them. I have emailed a gent who seems to know a fair bit, hopefuly he'll get back to me

As these are not my family I am not about to spend money. They are  actually my daughter in laws 4 x grt grandparents.

I have only slightly dabbled in Irish research, never had luck so far, scares me actually. So many common names.

I have that Trove article.

Thanks for those links Cocksie.

I will keep plodding along.

Thanks for those details. No I haven't contacted that person but I will to see what she says.  Some have her mother as Elizabeth McDermott and father as James Stutchbury. I do have all her details once she arrived here.

Thanks again.

I have just started researching this lady and found a mention of the name McDermott just today, I have no idea where that comes from but I do believe this to be the same person, I am stumped as to how she came by the names of "Grace Stuchbury"as there is also the surname James mentioned. There is someone who has researched her extensively however I do not at this stage have contact with the person, it's all 3rd hand.
I'd appreciate whatever the record says about Harriet McDermott.

Mary Ann Thurston was her name, daughter of Charles Deeks Thurston and Mary Ann Knights.
There was/is a theory that she gave conflicting names because she was contracted for 3 yrs to the parsonage at Richmond but got married 12 months after arriving and being that she was paid for 3 yrs it was/is felt that she was trying to dodge the authorities, however, that is something we will not really ever be able to confirm.
Although it is said she was able to read and write I wonder how good that really was because her signature doesn't really look like someone that is confident in writing.
Oh and yes if you have anything you can tell me about William Brown that would be appreciated as I have nothing but the marriage for them.

Well this was an interesting read. :) Just happened to stumble upon it.  Mary Ann Thurston is my hubby's 2nd grt grandmother and her daughter Mary Ann Dowdy his grt grandmother.
I think the major problem with all of this is illiteracy and incorrect transcriptions.
This part of the family has taken me and helpers some time to sort out in the past, think I have it pretty much sorted, I am in Cando's camp re pretty much everything.

mhetfield, if you don't mind, where do you fit in this family please?

Now if someone can tell me what happened to William Brown that would be good.

Thanks Cocksie I have seen that, that post gave me a couple leads. I'd like to find something to confirm what that says about who the parents are. I have been able to find some criminal records on FindMyPast but still not luck re parents.
